So I got an offer on my listing for my asking price. They put in their profile to text them and they said they will send the payment through ebay but the want me to send my item to MN when the area code phone number is for Maine. Does it seen sketchy?

Hi @myanderso_0

Asking a seller to text them is a definite red flag for a SCAM!

Decline the offer AND block the scammer.

The offer for asking price rather than just purchasing outright is certainly a red flag.

I wouldn't worry about telephone area codes, since so many people relocate but take their cell phone numbers with them.

eBay policy is that the seller should send the item to whatever name and address are attached to the payment.  The buyer can change the name/address during the payment process; there's a "Change" link right on the payment page. There's no need for separate communication about this. And a seller should Never change the address after the payment is received.

(Emphasis mine)

That is a complete and utter scam. The reason they want you to text them is to obtain your phone number, so they can send fake payment notifications direct to you that eBay cannot see. You will be told to ship before payment can be released, and of course no payment will ever appear. Just stop responding; there is no actual sale occurring here.

An offer that's the same as your BuyItNow price is simply an attempt to circumvent the actual eBay payment process by luring you into an off-eBay sale (okay, a fake sale, actually).

Sounds like you have a new "hybrid" scammer.  A 'text me scammer' and a 'change of address scammer' rolled into one.  Report the message on the message page under  the ACTION tab.  You can also block the person there as well.

This is NOT a buyer.  It is a criminal.

If the item sold, wait 96 hours and 1 minute exactly and cancel with the excuse BUYER DID NOT PAY.

Do NOT send another invoice.  This person is a scammer and even if they pay, they will say that you sent a rock.

Add the following statement to all of your listings until you become a seasoned seller. Copy and paste it.

All buyers MUST pay through the Ebay PAY NOW button. ALL payments will be verified in MY EBAY. ALL items will be shipped ONLY to the SHIP to address provided in the payment. ALL communications will be done ONLY through Ebay.

Learn to check MY EBAY.   If you do not know where to find it, do not list anything until you learn to find it and how to use it.  IF it does not say PAID here, you did not get paid.

Once you cancel,  you get a chance to relist it at the same time.   Make sure that you block the buyer.  I did not check what you sold but I bet it was an expensive item. Perhaps , you can list cheap items until you learn how to do ebay.

You do know that when you are new , ebay can hold your funds for up to 30 days.  So if you need $$ fast, this is not the place to unload that item.  You are a new seller and will have payment holds for a few weeks at least.
