Bit of a basic question, I'm sure, but haven't seen a clear answer after a brief search. I'm selling a large writing desk and it's pretty heavy. I'm not exactly sure of the weight but I'm sure shipping would be quite expensive. Currently I do not have shipping as an option (at least, I think I don't) and am asking for local delivery or pick up only. Still, I'm getting a few offers that appear to be out of the local area, I have tried reaching out to these buyers to confirm they will be able to pick up or are local but I'm not getting a response. Is it okay to accept their offers, or will I get stuck in a bind if they insist it is shipped long distance? Any insight would be appreciated, thanks!

I sold a wheel chair, that was pickup only. They did not see that & wanted me to ship it. When I told them I would have to charge more they said no. I called e-bay & they got a ding on their account. You are doing nothing wrong as long as it says pick up only.
PS: You have it listed correctly I just checked.

If an apparently distant buyer doesn't reply, then just ignore their offer.

eBay clearly states the Best Offers do not include shipping, and do not change the shipping options of a listing, regardless of what the buyer may request when making the Offer.
When you say you are 'getting offers', are they coming thru the Messages area or is the buyer actually using the Make An Offer option to send you their offer? When I get offers thru Messages, I simply tell them to use the Make Offer option on the listing and to be sure to read the page carefully. It's a canned message I keep in a text file because I don't want to type it out over and over... and I almost never see those members become buyers. Some will Message back, asking me to call them -- those are just scams and I don't even respond to them. In fact, most I report to eBay -- it's a violation of eBay terms to try and take a sale off-site, whether it's the buyer or seller who initiates the action. And it's also a pretty certain indicator of a scam when a not-yet-buyer asks you to call them.
Good Luck and Good Sales!

They are making an offer. I have gotten the suspicious offers before, I did not respond. Thank you for the help!

Not everything is a good fit for selling on eBay. While you have local pickup setup for this listing which makes perfect sense, shipping would be a killer. You may be better served listing this on some of the local forums that are available to you. You could also reduce the price a bit since you would not have to pay any FVF's and could do the transaction in cash.

I will put the following on your title. "PICK UP ONLY, WILL NOT SHIP." Or some thing like that, make sure to use capital letters. Most people now are using cellphones to buy stuff, and they don't pay attention.
Good luck.

Buyers weren't paying attention long before the eBay App came about. 🙂
