Selling items by "Random"

Selling video games as a "mystery box" or in random lots of 1  or 100.

Recently, a listing of mine was removed for being a game of chance, as I offered a random NES game for about $6 + shipping.  I also had 13 other listings for random video games including lots of 25 games that were proving to be more popular in terms of sales than my other 4,000 listings combined.

I purchase most of my own video games by random because I enjoy the chaos and there is deals to be had.

Not withstanding that there are many other U.S. sellers with much more substantial feedback and selling history currently selling by random.  This is a service that eBay users want and it is unfortunate that I will not be able to serve this market here.

In some ways I am frustrated lately with what sometimes appears to be selective enforcement and also that to continue to grow my business - I must acquire more inventory, but it seems sometimes that I am setting myself up to be shut down at any time.

I do think it is a setback in the business when half of my sales volume is random and I cannot do this anymore

You have a good attitude about it. I'm sure you'll figure out another way to make it work. You can still do very well with 3, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 game bundles if you want. More work to list and keep track of inventory, but definitely do-able.

More importantly for eBay settling disputes requires an accurate description of what the buyer was expecting.

What now?

Is that something brand new...because up until yesterday ebay required no such thing.

Yes - we have taken down our random listings.  It is just frustrating because this is what eBay customers were purchasing

Hi @retrogames10000

eBay didn't ban 'random' or 'mystery listings' because people weren't purchasing them.  They banned them because people were getting cheated.

I'm sorry, but you will need to pursue your random listings elsewhere.  Use eBay to list items that aren't banned.
