Selling directly to user

I recently had a laptop for sale and the person who won the auction ended up never paying for it so I did a second chance offer to someone who has bought from me in the past and who bid on the laptop but lost.  He said he wanted it but didn't have the cash in his account and needed another week for his paycheck to come in so he could afford it.  I agreed to this.  In the mean time the second chance offer expired since it was only for 24 hours.  Now that he has the cash I cannot see a way to sell to him direct.  He has messaged me a bunch saying to sell it but I told him I can't seem to find a way to do this and he said it's very common and he gets offers direct from people all the time.  He told me it's called a "direct offer" and he gets them all the time.  Am I missing something here?

Just relist it a a fixed price listing, and tell him the listing number.  You'll probably have to go back to the original auction to do the relist; IIRC, SCO listings don't have a relist option.

If you were willing to wait for payment, the buyer could have just purchased the SCO when originally offered, then waited a week to pay for it.

"Direct offer", could be that they are watching something, and seller of that item does a markdown which is sent to everyone watching that item not just the person who is wanting to buy your lap top.

"Just relist it as a fixed price listing, and tell him the listing number. "

Any listing on eBay, even if you made a special listing for a potential buyer, can be bought by anyone so hope everything works out for both parties.

What we have done on occasion in similar situations is list the item again at an absurd cost, but allow offers, and simply only accept the offer for the right amount from that buyer.  Reduces the chance someone else will grab it (and if they did, hey, lots of money!), and makes it relatively simple.  There's no such thing as a private listing in that sense (aimed at only one person), so we just work around it.  We also usually name it something like "Custom Item for xyz" with their username so not only can they find it easily (though of course we also give them the link), but no one else is likely to stumble across it.
