Okay, I've always been able to afford the shipping cost on my items, which is why I've always chosen free shipping to the customer. However, I'm getting ready to post a few items and have to charge the customer for the cost of shipping as well, simply because I just cannot afford it.
Here is my question. PayPal used to release my funds to me immediately, but recently stopped doing so. So if a customer purchases am item from me with the cost of shipping, are the shipping funds released to me immediately so I can ship the item off, or do they hold those funds as well? I just cannot afford to have anything coming out of pocket right now. It's why I sell in the first place.

Pay pal should release the funds you need to ship this package when you print your label to ship. As a newbie, I would pay cash to ship just so I could build up my pay pal account, but was losing eBays discount on shipping costs, and paying full retail price at counter at PO to ship. Good Luck to you.

To be honest, I've never printed labels. I've always handwritten everything, still packaged well of course lol. So you say the shipping cost funds would still be released to me no matter what after a customer buys?

Printing shipping labels on eBay / Pay pal saves you money over full retail cost at PO, It also downloads any tracking number(s) and less worry for you. Yes, you can print label with held funds, Pay pal will release the amount of label cost(s) of held funds. No printer? go to your public Library, log in and print your label, costs about 10 cents and saves you money over retail price, sometimes 1/3 of costs. I did this as newbie and saved enough money over retail to buy new printer / copy machine. Good Luck to you.

For Paypal to release funds right away you need to meet some criteria.
Now regions have splitted to US,UK,Global etc.

Thanks so much for your help guys. So basically I should just probably wait until I have the money to ship the stuff off?

Why wait? Should you sell your Xbox, buyer pays you $15 (cost of shipping on your listing) to ship, you then print label using buyers $15 which pay pal will release when you print your label, Never make a buyer wait, Ship when sold. (Always check your pay pal account for payment and pay pal says OK to ship) Good Luck.

Hi! You might consider leaving a cushion in your PayPal account so there are funds for shipping and any possible returns. While i rarely get a return, it helps to have that working capital to cover the costs of doing business.
Good luck to you, and hope you have a lucrative selling season!
