Selling a 'broken' phone?

hello,

I have a samsung s7 edge, it powers on, but there screen is cracked in a corner and there's a white streak on teh side of the screen right on the edge.  Also sometimes the screen will flicker and turn yellow/greenish and then will be fine again.

Should I sell it as "for parts not working'  ? I worry people will just complain about it and send it back.
Can I add 'no returns accepted' to my listing and will ebay honor this if the buyer changes their mind?

I stupidly paid $227 for it last month (june 15th) on ebay ,and it  broke more recently, to late to sent it back with buyer protection.

thanks 🙂

Personally, I'd never sell tech items broken or working on ebay. Doesn't matter if you have it listed as parts not working or say no returns. Many don't read the text and have expectations of something different. You can say no returns, but ebay can still force you to refund.

With the fast moving technology used in phones I don't see how taking one apart would be an easy fix for compatibility with another since it's not like they're all individual tiny parts that are easily replaced and work presto within another phone! If this was such an easy fix, then why are there so many broken phones for sale!! A broken screen totally compromises the ability for a touchscreen phone to function properly, unlike a phone with no touch capability where a crack wouldn't matter as much.

Yes, your ebay MBG is up but ppl often file via paypal for up to 6 months after purchase, which opens up an entire other can of worms. Have no idea what was promised in the listing about this phone and I'm not saying you should file anything.

Selling a 'broken' phone?

How would I file via paypal, as I already opened a return via ebay (since a few days , with no reply from the seller).  The phone had a crack when I bought it , but it just got a lot worse with the white streak.

thanks 🙂

Just click Ask eBay to step in.

On the day after 3 business days, that button will appear on your return Details page.

But if you are past 30 days, open a PayPal dispute here:

Buyer protection is not for someone dropping their phone. Nuff said on that.

EBay was founded on selling used items, more importantly, a broken laser pen. The rest is history. A lot has changed since then. If you're going to sell it (which I would, but that's me), make sure you take take lots of pictures, described it accurately (like you did above), list it for "Parts or Repair Only" and make sure your return policy is set to "No Returns".

When I sell things like that, I also put at the top and bottom of the description "PARTS OR REPAIR ONLY***NO RETURNS" in big RED letters. I put the description in between those red titles.

This will NOT guarantee you won't get a SNAD claim against you, but you have about a 75% change in your favor when you do that. I have NEVER gotten a SNAD claim for a broken item I sold, all the SNAD claims I have received over the years have been fraudulent SNAD claims on mostly new and working items.

Just a side note,  "buyer changes their mind" is a buyers remorse return which eBay WILL enforce your "No Return" policy (if you have one). Also, just fyi, You have 180 days buyer protection on PayPal but not for something a buyer breaks.

The OP said it "got a lot worse with the white streak" AFTER s/he used it for a month and a half (i.e. it WAS working when s/he received it). Cracks usually don't heal or get better with time and with the way most people abuse their phones I would assume the crack would get worse. This is NOT a SNAD claim and the OP should NOT try and recoop their losses with a SNAD claim through PayPal. It's not morally right. The OP should cut their losses and re-sell the phone for Parts or trash it.

I agree, that is why I asked the OP.:(

They knew it had problems when they purchased it and expected it to be fine with a cracked screen and a white lines?:(

Not NAD.

No need, you can do it all at once.

When you begin a dispute at PayPal:

https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_complaint-view

you'll be asked to agree that your ongoing eBay case will be closed.

I did NOT drop this phone. It got worse on it's own because of the crack I guess. I was oke with that when I bought it , hoping it would last a year still or so , but I'm not oke with just a little more then a month ! 🙂

Yes.  Just that.

And add an accurate description of the issues you know about.  And explain that there might be more you don't know about.

Will that lower the price it will fetch?  Of course.

But buyers will have proper expectations, and generally, ebay will protect you from a complaint that it doesn't work.

I did not say you dropped it.

I did however say "not NAD" based on what you knew when purchased.

Cracked screen phone with lines is not ever going to last a year, I would have hit the back button on the listing.
