Selling Scams

Hello,

I just posted an item that sold, (no joke), 8 minutes after posting the item to eBay. Lately, scammers have been hitting me pretty hard and it's a challenge to deal with the cancelations and waives of fee's. (Hopefully there are none when canceling. Please back me up on this.)

Whenever I post an item, unfortunately, I do not see the option to select "immediate payment required." Most of the time, if I do not receive payment, I send the buyer a message informing them that as soon as the payment has cleared, that I will ship. Then after that, if I do not hear from the buyer, I just request a cancelation when typically gets processed and completed within roughly 12-24 hours.

Any rebuddle on this?

Thanks,

Ian

Why on earth are you cancelling and using what as a reason?

You should be following the procedure to file an Unpaid Item Dispute.

Don't Cancel, Open non payment case in the Resolution Center, bottom of this page. You can do so in as little as 48 hrs. after sale ends. This gives your deadbeat buyer a strike and you get your fees back on this "Sale".  When you are on the listing page, Slow down, Look for the little box under your stated price on the listing page "Immediate payment required"  This stops most scammers. Always Check your Pay pal account before you ship for payment, and Pay pal says OK to ship. New or low feedback sellers selling high end Items like yours are targets for scammers. Sell Smart. Good Luck to you and Welcome to eBay.  Smiley Tongue

Requirements to list with the immediate payment option

To use the immediate payment option in your listing, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have an eBay seller account in good standing.

  • Have a PayPal account when you list your item.

  • Specify a Buy It Now price of no more than $60,000.

  • Specify shipping costs or offer free shipping when you list your item.

  • Include all other related costs, such as taxes, so your buyer knows exactly how much to pay.

How to require immediate payment in your listing

To add an immediate payment requirement to your listing:
  1. Create a fixed-price listing or an auction-style listing with a Buy It Now option.

  2. In the Decide how you'd like to be paid section of the listing form, select the option to Require immediate payment when buyer uses Buy It Now.

  3. Complete your listing.

I just posted an item that sold, (no joke), 8 minutes after posting the item to eBay.

Generally I consider that Good News.

But if you have another one, raise the price a little.

Whenever I post an item, unfortunately, I do not see the option to select "immediate payment required.

https://pages.ebay.ca/help/pay/require-immediate-payment.html

And here is the operative information:

To use the immediate payment option in your listing, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have an eBay seller account in good standing.

  • Have a PayPal Premier or PayPal Business account when you list your item. Find out more about upgrading your PayPal account.

  • Specify a Buy It Now price of no more than $80,000.

  • Specify shipping costs or offer free shipping when you list your item.

  • Include all other related costs, such as taxes, so your buyer knows exactly how much to pay.

How to require immediate payment in your listing

To add an immediate payment requirement to your listing:
  1. Create a fixed price listing or an auction-style listing with a Buy It Now option.

  2. In the Decide how you'd like to be paid section of the listing form, select the option to Require immediate payment when buyer uses Buy It Now.

  3. Complete your listing.

    And yes , no cancellations.

If you are in the USA, you can open an Unpaid Item Dispute after 48 hours and close it again after 96.*

Some of those buyers may just be slow payers, or need time to get a Paypal account set up.

Send ONE reminder after 24 hours ** and if you get no reasonable response, go to the UID.

You get your FVF back and the dead beat gets a Strike which makes it harder to bid on eBay in future. Also she cannot leave feedback, which she can with a cancellation.

Usually I find my non-payers are just slowpokes. They pay, apologize and leave positive feedback.

And go to your Seller Preferences and set up a Block against bidders with Unpaid Item Strikes. It helps.

    It's not personal, it's business.

*We non-US sellers have to wait 96 hours to open and another 96 to close.

** As a non-US seller I wait until Day Three.

I suspect your buyers don't realize that your prices are so low because you are selling USED items.

Put that in the title.

You have 80 keystrokes as Free Advertising. Use them.

Also put colour there.

And be careful of that (1) FB bidder on the laptop. You may not wantto sell to him.

@recoil-supply-co

Go to your My eBay > Account > Site Preferences and set your Buyer Requirements to at least block bidders without PayPal accounts (most scammers don't have them), and those in countries you don't ship to, but include the others on the list.
This is a one-time block that will apply to all your listings, but may not change the laptop listing with bids.

Also another post re IPR requirements stating you need PayPal Premier or Business account is for eBay Canada sellers.

U.S. sellers are not required to upgrade their PayPal account.
