Hey guys,
I was trying to sell some used clothes to Japan, China, and Korea and was wondering what challenges I would face with selling used clothes there, whether it be customs, tariffs? I've read that international shipping through Ebay is not the best and sometimes expensive...

Asians shun on buying used clothes,it says they cant afford new clothes, and they lose face.
and clothese are plenty and made in SE Asia, why pay shipping to bring in used clothes.
if there is an out of production, hard to find ,modern or ancient, they can always take the design to a local tailor have him make a copy for them.
Brazil is a different story, for some reason ,consumer goods are expensive, thats why they buy in bulk from foreign countries.
There are merchants who ship all the dept store returns and remainder lots to India, since some sizes are just too big for local, both men and women, they will shred them and use them for other purpose ,but not to wear them.
Unless you have some unusual costumes like authentic Qing, ming emperor robe with dragon motif or high end wedding kimonos which belonged to nobility of Japan,Asians just dont like to wear other people's clothes.

but how about korea? and do you let them return clothes?
item not as described trump your no return policy,if you refuse return after they open a case, they would get the moneyback plus keeping the item.
if you agree to return, you pay return shipping.
since you cant give them a shipping label of Japan,Korea,China post office, you will pay them the postage cost via Paypal.
if they go to their credit card issuer and file a chargeback,Paypal will withhold the payment, intl credit card disputes take a long time to resolve,if you lose, you pay $20 chargeback fee.and if you want the item back, you have to plead and pay them to return the item

@rixstuff wrote:I was never successful at selling second hand clothing to those countries. Japan and Korea are VERY fashion conscious and want only high end and are more than willing to pay designer prices. They would expect anything they buy to be PERFECT (not just good or with tons of life left PERFECT). They also tend to be smaller than plus size Americans so no takers there. Vintage jewelery worked well but not clothing. I have sold clothes to Thailand and Philipines and even a few to Indonesia. China is just plain weird about anything coming into the country so it is difficult AND expensive to sell to China. Contrary to the belief that there is a ton of money to be made from China, most Chinese citizens are rather poor so while there are plenty of potential buyers they probably couldnt pay what you would ask.
your sizes would not fit the poor Chinese as they are under nourished and skinny, and they can always pick up used clothese by going to the local market.
Also it would be crazy to pay US $ for used clothes, they make majority of the clothese in the world, why spend precious US $ to bring in used clothese/
Even the Mexico clothes merchant have thrown in the towel and just import from China
One US$ comes to Chinese $ 6.50

how about expensive electronics with customs internationally? how much are the customs taxes?
what is the probability that an item is inspected or seized by customs?
is it worth it if the margins are small?
