Selling Collectables with no proof of purchase

Is it true that Ebay/Paypal will sometimes require proof of purchase / proof of ownership before releasing funds from your sales?

I'm interested in selling some coins, which I have been collecting since I was a child. Some of these I have held for 30+ years, and do not have any kind of receipt or proof of purchase.  Will it be possible to sell these without the proceeds being held indefinitely by ebay/paypal?

eBay does sometimes require proof of purchase from sellers but I think that is more common if the seller is suddenly doing a high volume of sales and is probably more likely with 'new' items.

But, none of us here can say for sure what ebay will decide to do but unless your items are very expensive, I probably wouldn't worry about it.

I've been selling for just over one year and I have no receipts for anything.

Railroad related material bought between 1978 to 1993. Some bought directly from the publisher/manufacturer, and some from trade shows.

NASCAR material, bought between 1992 to 2003. Same as the railroad items.

Other items, were inherited.

In all cases receipts went to the landfill decades ago. Have never had any problems from e-bay.

You should be okay.

Ebay will usually not ask for a proof of purchaser unless you "raise a red flag".

Sell a expensive item.

Sell a lot all of s sudden.

Sell several "brand name" items.

Etc.

the item matters. if your coins are all worth thousands of dollars, yes you will be asked for receipts.

I sell most coins for under $100 and I've never been asked to show a receipt.
