Is it just me, or does it seem like the fees for ebay sellers are outrageous? I feel ebay is being quite greedy with charging sellers ten million different little fees for everything. I am very persuaded to no longer sell on this website because of this. Could anyone share some thoughts? Thank you.

Yes they are

They are what they are. Deal with it or don't. 10% of an item price isn't that bad-lots of places charge a lot more.

They're just getting warmed up. Wait until they throw your service metric into the "very high" rating so that they can charge you an extra 4 percent FVF!
If it hasn't happened to you yet, it will soon.

Sellers who don't have a Store subscription get 50 free basic insertions per month. If you stick to those, and don't use any of the optional listing upgrades (such as reserve or subtitle) then there is only one fee, i.e. the 10% final value fee. The FVF rate was recently raised to 12 % in some media categories, but that was the first increase since 2013.

I'm sorry it seems that way to you, but there really aren't ten million different little fees. You get 50 free listings. You pay FVF on what you sell. Years ago, you paid for listings, pictures, and FVF, along with any upgrades and additional options you chose. If you don't chose any upgrades, you don't get charged for them. This might require some vigilance when listing to be sure you don't have anything checked that you don't actually want on your listing.
The other fee would be the Paypal processing fee.
Generally you can see what you will be charged before sending the listing live.
Of course, if the listing is an auction, that will not be definitive because the FVF has not been determined due to not knowing what the listing will sell for.
Most sites have a fee structure.

The fees I get are "Final Value Fees," and "Final Value Fee on Shipping." Should I not be getting these if I am using my 50 free basic insertions?

The final value fee (on selling price and on shipping) is charged even if the basic insertion was free. That's not "millions."

On ebay, it does cost you money to earn money.

That's a common misunderstanding. Some people think the 50 free basic insertions mean everything is free, when Ebay does specify that it is only the listing fee that is waived and not the Final Value fee, which does apply to the item cost and to the shipping cost.

I consider the base fees acceptable. Our local online auctions, one of which has gone to online sales almost exclusively, charge 33-40%, plus a buyer's premium (10-15%). A smart buyer reduces his bid to compensate for the buyer's premium, so that is more money out of the seller's pocket. If you are the buyer and want the item shipped they will put you into contact with the 3rd party shipping company they use which will costs extra . Oh and the one auction only allows pick-up on Saturdays between 10-2, if you do not make other arrangements before 10 on Saturday and you don't pick it up you lose it. And they only accept cash or (I think - they only take one CC) Visa. With all these issues I do not know why the buyers don't just come to eBay, in many cases the price would be better and the item will come right to your house.... I have bought a few things over the years, but I am amazed at the prices they get for some items (and have my suspicions). I really don't want to HAVE to go out of my way at 10-2 on a Saturday unless it is an item I really need at a much better price. One final thought, you often get one photo and sales are as is with very little or no description...
There was never yet an uninteresting life. Such a thing is an impossibility. Inside of the dullest exterior there is a drama, a comedy and a tragedy.

Honestly I feel like these threads are popping up more lately. It makes me wonder if some of these people might be getting hit with the 4% FVF increase from Service Metrics, but don't know it.

I don't think the fees are high enough. Think of all the glitches and goofs, the tech issues and constant non-sensical changes. People pay good money for roller coaster rides and slasher films. So ebay is one heck of a deal!

I pay a 10% final value fee on the total amount to eBay.
I choose not to pay any other fees to eBay ... and so can you.

When even the smallest retail space around here is easily $2500 a month (with a 5 year lease).....
Then there's electricity, shrink (theft), water bills, sewer bills, gas bills, display shelves, signage, advertising, promotions, wages, payroll taxes, Social security taxes, state taxes, colecting sales tax........
If at the end of the month you still have 5% of your sales, you're doing good. Only on eBay do people complain that they only get to pocket 50% of a sale......
