Seller restrictions

I have had an EBay account for many years that I enjoy using. However recently, I was informed that my account was restricted from selling anything indefinitely  and that, even though I have never done anything wrong with my seller account or violated any policies, the fact that I used my phone number as a back up phone number on my ex-employers EBay account (as the administrative assistant, I needed to be able to speak and be contacted on behalf of my employer in case there were problems with his EBay account), and that because my employer violated the policies, somehow that meant that MY personal EBay account was going to be restricted as well.

This is absolutely unfair as I have no affiliation or personal use of my employers account, was not involved in its management or purchases/sales, and no longer even work for that employer. My EBay account was never associated with that employers account and I have no connection to them whatsoever currently. The fact that my phone number was only used as a back up number in case he lost his password or needed someone to answer his messages should not tie me to that account for the rest of my life. I have never misused my account or EBay privileges and I don’t deserve to have half of eBay’s services denied to me simply because of who I worked for.

Seller restrictions

I had a similar issue where I was listing for another seller and they violated the rules long after I was gone. I called eBay (Call-back) and they resolved it while I was on the phone.

Since you haven't sold anything in some time, you need to sign up for managed payments:

https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/getting-paid/start-getting-paid-ebay

There is no more paypal, therefore you'll need to attach your bank account to your ebay account to be paid.  Note that you will be treated as a new seller and any funds you receive from sales will be put on hold for 30 days to insure the buyer is happy and the transaction went smooth without issues.  Also make sure the name your your bank account matches the info on your ebay account exactly

It's the new Ebay.

Good luck.

@renholds0275

I believe you, unfortunately by tying your phone number in with your former employer on their eBay account makes you guilty by association .

    Ebay appears to be cracking down on accounts and cleaning house, we read it here quite frequently.

You may not have done anything wrong but if any of your ex employees used your phone number on eBay then they're linked to you, and if they get suspended then everyone eBay can link to them gets suspended.

That's all it takes to connect the accounts and they can use information from years ago.

Have a great day.

Actions like innocently logging in to one’s eBay account from someone else’s computer can jeopardize a seller’s privileges. Once is all it takes to be associated with a troubled account.

If i were you, i would contact eBay’s customer service thru one of their social media portals. Send a private message using eBay’s business Facebook page briefly outlining your problem. They will get back to you.

Good luck and hope you are successful at restoring your selling privileges.
