Bought a toy auction. Some items were damaged and not accurately described. Requested a return. During this process the seller sent many messages saying they won't take a return and calling me a liar. Ebay ruled in my favor, and I shipped the items.
Today I receive a message from the seller filled with obscenities and claiming that I broke and stole some items. And that they're filing for an appeal.
I didn't steal or break any of the items. What do I need to do to protect myself in this situation? Thank you.

Ignore & delete the messages.

Don't forget to enter the tracking number for the return and escalate the case to Ebay.

First stop replying to the seller.
You might want to let ebay see these emails to bolster your case that he is a nut.
I am hoping you sent back with tracking.
If so, once tracking shows the item was returned he only has a few days to refund you or ebay will do it for him and he will get a strike.
I would not worry about his appeal. If he does just respond with what you sent originally to prove SNAD in your favor.

Policy overview
Members can send messages to each other through eBay. We encourage open communication between our members but we don't allow our members to use these options to send spam, threats, profanity, or hate speech.

Certainly ignore the messages.
But don't delete them.
When you have your money back, call Customer Support and ask them to take a look at the messages.
This is easy if the seller was dumb enough to use eBay Messages, but if he used email, you will have to include all the headers and eBay is more restricted in how they can use those.

The seller sent messages through ebay messages on the site.

Perfect. Below is timeline seller has to refund your money. And if he does not call and ask ebay to step in.
And do not respond to him any longer, but do keep the messages until you are refunded.
When to ask us to step in and help
Most returns and refunds go smoothly, but if a seller doesn't issue you a refund, you can ask us to step in and help. Depending on the seller's return method, timelines may differ. We guide you to the correct timing as part of your return request in My eBay, but for reference:
You can ask us to step in and help if the seller doesn't issue a refund within 6 business days of receiving the returned item, or within 6 business days of the estimated delivery date for the returned item if no tracking is used. You have 10 business days to ask us to step in and help after the seller's time to issue a refund has passed.
If a seller doesn't respond to your return request, you can ask us to step in and help 3 business days after you request a return.

@coolvintageohio, do you see "Delivered" on your return Details page now?
If so, you'll get a refund in a few minutes. The seller does not have 6 business days to refund if you had to ask eBay to step in and issue a label.

I checked my paypal. I received a refund from ebay inc.

As soon as tracking shows delivery in eBay's system, the refund will be issued automatically because that is how it works in escalated cases. Ignore further communication from the seller.

Epon, I must be missing something.
At what point did this case become escalated so that the return would be done immediately?
