I bought a book on cassette that was only half the book. 78 year old seller had had cassettes on his book shelf for twenty years and had no idea it was only half a book. He agreed to refund , but did not know how to do it. Ebay immediately issued a mail label at first class price instead of media mail. He doesn't want the book back and I don't want him to be charged for first class. So now , we seem to be stuck in Ebay what ever. I am getting hesitant to buy anything more on Ebay. I am still selling. But the whole thing unnerves me when you can't call them anymore. Any suggestions?

Well, you can call them. I had an email chat last week with Customer Service.
The link is Help and Contact at the bottom of this page.
That being said, nice things are being said about the reps at theses sites:

If the seller wants to refund without a return, they can go into the transaction/sale and just do the refund from there.
If you don't use the label, I believe it will be auto refunded to the seller- I'm not 100% on that now, I don't know if things have changed but I believe it refunds automatically.

He is 78 and clueless. I have tried to help, but he isn't capable.

Not sure exactly how, but he should have been able to go into the case and issue an immediate refund without requiring a return. Anyway, the seller should not be charged for the label until it is used. It is a Return Service label and the PO doesn't charge eBay until they get it and calculate the postage.
Most Help pages have a Contact Us button at the bottom which will lead, if you dig deep enough, to the Contact Agent option. Just keep click See More until you find it.

Well, being 78 doesn't render someone clueless, but if he doesn't sell much he may be mystified by this at times too complicated platform. Ask him to go into the return case and just hit the 'refund without return' (paraphrase) option. He does not need to do anything else. Is there any way you can do a couple of screen shots and enter them into your messages?

Then the best thing is for him to call eBay to ask for their assistance..
I don't know that you calling will help- as it's his account..
This is a pickle..
He can't navigate to the case to close? It comes in emails & eBay messages with a link to the case; he can just navigate to the case via link and refund from there.. If he can't do THAT how the heck is he listing on here..

They won't chat with me because I am suppose to send back the cassette and it does't progress until I do. It would cost this old guy twice what he paid for media shipping.

That's what I was wondering. Maybe he had someone help him, and that someone can come over and help him again. I seriously feel sorry for people who don't use this platform very often - it's really over-complicated.
I don't believe in calling people on the phone, but the only way to do it may be to call him (asking permission first) and guide him through the process.
Don't worry about the label - it'll time out.

He says he spent 45 minutes on the phone with Ebay and he is very disappointed in them. I agree 78 is't that old. I am 70, but he seems clueless. I am probably going to give up, but Ebay does make it hard to deal with difficult situations.

How much money are we talking here?
This can't be more than $15 or so yes?
If it's a big issue financially, close the return let him keep the money, send me your PP email in a PM and I will refund it for you..
This entire things makes me very sad...

(If you don't use the label, I believe it will be auto refunded to the seller- I'm not 100% on that now, I don't know if things have changed but I believe it refunds automatically.)
There is no charge to the Seller for the shipping label unless it gets used.

It is not a financial thing at all. It is a situation where Ebay is charging first class for a book return and a older guy who is clueless. One of his other reviews state he tried to raise the price $40 after a sale. And how did he get Ebay on the phone.? I just don't want to get involved with a sale that does cost a lot and run into these problems. Ebay needs to have phones or something for difficult issues.

Thank you..
I was fairly sure it still worked that way but it's nice to have confirmation. So there's no refund process it just never charges until it's used.. Got it!
Thanks

Gotcha
I know they're giving decent CS on Facebook- UGH I hate Facebook.
There are also methods to have eBay call you back but that's about it for now.
From my understanding the Facebook option nets the most informed reps.
Issuing a priority label for a media mail return is rather concerning.
