Hi all, I have digested a ton of responses to lack of business on the seller forum. Since I am an old guy and basically understand algorithms to some extent, here is my analysis to this point with comments.
We see "lack of sells" post nearly daily now. Comments are driven toward March 20th due to some change and internal issues with w/the Bay's algorithms. I have to agree there is some creditability to these comments. Let me expand. In my opinion, there is not one pinpointed issue driving this downhill spiral. I truly believe it's a number of problems which has created a unique situation. Algorithms, economy, seasonal spend, management business decisions, and market fluctuations.
Don't know how to justify the algorithms but readings 100's of posts I believe there is value to this. I see all the major carriers down on the number of packages being handled so if that's correct then the spend level is lower. We roll into summer which for the most part is slower. Market fluctuations enters into this, collectibles are down along with other markets, and complaints of higher fees etc. We also see more buyers asking for discounts etc. The one area that I have heartburn in is the return & cc issue related to cancels & scams. This one issue seems to initiate a restructuring of one's overall threshold on how to sell higher priced items, possibly bailing, and trying to understand the Bay's policy regarding these 2 issues. This is a whole different topic for future discussion.
Based on these factors, one can stay on the Bay, split up their inventory on different platforms, or quit the Bay it's that simple. Complaining on the seller discussion board is useless. Positive suggestions should be directed to the Bay's management period. I have the luxury of owning stock through a mutual fund on the Bay. Don't slam me on owning the stock as this has been part of the MF portfolio for over a decade. I have several additional options available to me to address these issues versus non-stock owners.
My prior year numbers are somewhat less but the fact is the weekly high/lows seem to trend compared to this year. Keep in mind I eliminated 2 major product lines so yes it has an effect. Am I happy with the current sales level, Hell NO since I have added 80+ more listings.
In conclusion, stop complaining on the seller discussion board and direct your thoughts and concerns to management. Will it help, who knows but I can say one thing, if anyone can stand up and get time in a stockholder meeting it does have a profound effect. Good luck, Happy Father's Day, and keep the faith it will get better!
