Seller Recourse

Hi, I wonder if a more experienced seller can educate me. I sold a poster 2 months ago. I have pictures of it being in mint condition. I listed no returns. EBAY has the money back guarantee of 30 days I believe. All of a sudden 2 months later the buyer wants a refund and states it has a crease through the middle. I declined the return but he now has a claim with his credit card company and EBAY has a negative dollar amount on my account. If this poster was not correct when you received it why wait 2 months? I can't take it back if he ruined it and resell it. I don't know if he ruined it or is having buyers remorse but does anybody have my back? What recourse do I have? Am I out my money and my merchandise? Is there no time limit and can buyers just get away with this?

Unfortunately, eBay won't have your back. Once you denied the Return request and it was sent to the buyer's credit card, you were toast. Even we experienced sellers are having a hard time fighting CC chargebacks. Plus, they come with a $20 fee to you. It stinks... and sorry you're going through this. Good luck moving forward.

eBay gives you 30 days, PayPal and most credit card companies give you 180 days. Unfortunately, you have

no recourse. His credit card will go against eBay for the money, which in turn will deduct it from you. Certainly agree that the crease should have been spotted upon receipt, not 2 month latter, sounds to me buyers remorse.

At this point, is it worth it having the poster back? You need to determine this, and no, no one has your back, sad to say but you are on your own. You can try arguing your case, but it wont do you any good, as eBay will transfer funds anyway.

It doesn't matter WHY he ruined it.

It doesn't matter IF he ruined it.

It doesn't matter that he waited 2 months.

It doesn't matter that your story makes  perfect sense.

Sorry to say but in a case like this ebay will find for the buyer every time.

His word against yours. Since the buyer has a MBG with ebay. The buyer will win.

The buyer will be refunded with the funds that are now on hold.

Because you denied the return, the buyer does not have to send then item back.

No big deal because as you said, the poster is probably damaged anyways.

Just learn from this experience.

Anyone can file a false claim and get a free item.

Hopefully they can't do it too often.

Hopefully ebay will put a stop to it if it happens too much.

Sorry for the bad news.   Good luck!

Was your policy in the listing No Returns?  No returns doesn't mean no refunds. Having that policy is what hurt you.  If you accept returns you get your item back. If you don't  then the buyer complains to their credit card co it's damaged you don't accept returns-what to do? They say no problem they'll force you or eBay to refund. Then the buyer keeps the poster and eBay charges you $20 for the chargeback.

Sad to say but they are going to refund them and let them keep the poster. This is a scam that goes on every hour of every day with Ebay. Ebay is going to claim the will defend you and charge you $20.00 for that service and they will do nothing they will mislead you and act as if they care but they will do nothing, completely useless. Ebay cheerleaders will be sending messages how this is your fault and no returns just means you didnt want your merchandise and all kinds of crazy stuff. This stuff is 100% on ebay they allow and encourage this type of dishonest buyer. good luck.

The seller protections for a payment dispute are spelled out here:

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-policies/payment-dispute-seller-protections?id=5293

If you did not meet all of the requirements for seller protection, you are out of luck. If you did meet all of the requirements, I would contact eBay to ask why you were not covered.

@jagabrieljr7yat

At this point you can't take it back even if you wanted to.  When you get a payment dispute through the managed payments system, there is no 'return for refund' choice.  You either refund and let the buyer keep the product for free, or contest the chargeback with the picture they allow.  Then you will be refunding and letting the buyer keep the product for free with an additional $20 charge for not agreeing to be a victim of buyer fraud from the get go.

So sorry you are experiencing this.  eBay doesn't care so long as THEY don't have to pay out.

Since the buyer filed a claim with their credit card, probably so.

A buyer can file a claim with Pay Pal and most credit cards for 6 months.

Have a great day.

Dear eBay Bashing Society member:

The credit card company charges eBay a $20 dispute fee, and eBay recoups it from the seller and remits it to the credit card company. It's not like eBay makes $20 on every dispute. To imply that is misleading, at best.

If a person is going to malign eBay policies/fees, that person should at least provide full disclosure.

Even if you meet all requirements for seller protection they will come up with a different reason they wont cover it. Ebay is just as bad as the dishonest buyers they provide us.

I believe your best course of action would be to ACCEPT the credit card company's return and (try to get the item back) - I believe that is how it is phrased, that should put the onus back on the buyer.

Reason I say that, is I'm pretty sure if you DECLINE and fight the claim they will simply issue a refund PLUS another $20.

So if someone can buy my rare limited edition numbered poster. Ruin it and get their money back or even keep it for free then why am I on here selling? I would be stupid to keep selling on here.

A chargeback on a SNAD (not as described) is almost impossible to win.

Buyers know to go to their Credit Card company when they do not get what they want from a Seller.

You are better off as a Seller to offer 30 day returns, buyer pays to return.

Unfortunately, this used to only be about high-end items.  Now, every transaction is fair game, regardless of item type, value.
