Hello,
I had a question about the percentage of seller fee I paid for a toy I sold. I looked up what the fees should be on eBay, and it stated 5% I believe for the total price paid by the buyer.
I sold the item for $13.50, but I ended up only netting $11.32. This means that I paid 16.15% in seller's fees if I calculated that correctly. Can you please advise me where I'm wrong here on what I think I should be paying vs. what I paid? I have a higher priced item for sale, and am thinking about selling it on a different site instead so I won't have to pay so much in fees. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
rbd

Toys are 12.9% on the TOTAL amount paid plus the regular $0.30 flat fee. Not sure where you got your information, very FEW items have a 5% fee...certainly not toys. https://www.ebay.com/sellercenter/selling/seller-fees
As far as selling on another site to avoid the fees, good luck actually selling it.

if you are referring to the Lego figure
you sold for 8.00 + 5.50 for shipping
depending on the buyers locale, there was probably sales tax added (lets say the average 8%)
total sale for calculation would be 14.58 X .129 = 11.62 + .30 transaction fee = 11.32 Net
I do not know if Lego category is Toys & Hobbies (5.0%)

Your mistake is that the fees are calculated on the buyer's total payment, including shipping and sales tax, and as @Anonymous said, most eBay fees are 12.9% not 5%.
This is an approximation because I don't know exactly what the buyer's sales tax rate was; it could be +/- half a percent and still work out to the same amount.
amount: | calculated on: (comments)
purchase price | $ 8.00 | ||
shipping cost | $ 5.50 | ||
subtotal | $ 13.50 | ||
sales tax | 8.0% | $ 1.08 | subtotal (at buyer's rate) |
total buyer's payment | $ 14.58
variable final value fee | 12.9% | $ 1.88 | total buyer's payment |
fixed final value fee | $ 0.30 | $ 0.30
total eBay fees | $ 2.18 | ||
sales tax | $ 1.08 | (sent to buyer's state)
shipping label | $ - | (if used)
total deductions from payout | $ 3.26 | (total eBay fees + sales tax + shipping label)
payout sent | $ 11.32 | (total payment - total deductions) |

That category is only Toys & Hobbies > Collectible Card Games > CCG NFTs (digital)
Has nothing to do with physical toys.

You need to be very familiar with the Selling Fee policy page. It is critical for all sellers to know this information. How much you will be charged and on what.
Also remember that if you do your shipping in Ebay, the cost of your shipping label will be deducted from the money you were paid by the buyer. That is NOT a fee from Ebay, that is simply another cost of doing business. Shipping.

You were charged correctly. Ebay charges on the TOTAL amount of the transaction which typically ranges from 13-17%. I have no idea why you thought it was only 5% fees. Ebay has never had fees that low since its' inception.

They do but only on very specific items as I specified above, two posts above yours.
