Seller Communications

Have been an Ebay Member for years and Has always been a Pretty Good experiance.  I recently was Interested In an Item, and had a question to the seller before the Aution ended, to which the seller didnt respond. I looked at the persons rating which said 0. I gave them the benefit of the Doubt and Purchased the item anyway, and paid for it that day.  2 days have passed and still No responce from the seller, and then did some more looking at sellers history, and despite Ebay say 0...in actuallity the person has made 4 sales before mine, in which 2 of them the repsonce from buyers says Never receieved Items...held up their Money for month before ebay refunding them. in fairness 2 of the 4 sales people were satisfied.

So I just dont have a good feeling on this, Paypal has sent me a message with my receipt saying they requested customer to ship also......I dont mean to be in a Hurry here by not allowing allotted time....But in all my other purchases on here people are curtious, and always get a notificaton items have shipped, but am at a Nothing as far as Response from seller....I no longer find it, but I believe it was Ebays Policy in the past that Both Buyer and seller were required to make contact within 3 days...Is that No longer in effect? Also we all Just want Honesty on here...so it must be an Ebay policy to make a certain numbers of Sales before they Rate You????   WHY ? this Persons rating at first glance says 0......but then I noticed it says 50%  when clicking on his 0 rating.....Why?? They have made 4 sales of which 2 are negative and buyers never received items and had to go thru arbitartion to be refunded...Yet ebay does Not reflect that in their Rating...If i had seen that i would have avoided this seller and purchased thru somebody else.....I have one other question...while looking at Ebays help page...and then clicking on make a claim , just for curiosity.....Ebay says..Looks like Your item is on the Way and to wait till a time date, which I will...but How can they say that when I have not been sent anything that its shipped....Is this just because I paid for it they say that??.........Dont mean to over react....But Have never had 0 response from anyone, and Seems like their is No Requirement any longer to do so...We buyers have to Just sit and wait, and am Not impressed with ebay saying 0 rating but yet Seller has had 4 and 2 were Negative No sales....Hello?  Red  Flag?

Depends on the item you purchased and sellers location and what they have selected as a handling time and how the item is being shipped. If they have 2 positives and two negatives their feedback will show 0 nothing abnormal about that...

That is not the policy.

That is reflected in their rating. Zero is the feedback score because the 2 negative cancel out the 2 positive. The rating is 50% not zero.

I have one other question...while looking at Ebays help page...and then clicking on make a claim , just for curiosity.....Ebay says..Looks like Your item is on the Way and to wait till a time date, which I will...but How can they say that when I have not been sent anything that its shipped....Is this just because I paid for it they say that??

You don't know whether the seller has shipped or not. They may not have uploaded tracking. What is the estimated delivery date on the order? If the item doesn't arrive by the estimated date and there's still no response from the seller then you can open an Item Not Received request and get a refund.

That's horrible feedback however, if ebay says looks like your item is on the way then a shipping label has been purchased through ebay. There's no reason to make a claim. There is no requirement that the seller message you within 3 days, never has been such a requirement. Have some patience and wait to see what happens. 2 days is a not a big deal. Why did you purchase something if you had a question about it that wasn't answered? You might be disappointed in the item and under those circumstances it is not the seller's fault. Sounds like you have a 50/50 chance of getting what you ordered. Follow the shipping for the next 4-5 days and see if it updates. If it doesn't, then you file a claim, but not until you give the seller the chance to get the item to you.

You are confusing a seller's feedback score with his transaction count - these are two entirely different things. A 0 feedback score does not mean 0 transactions or 0 negatives. Especially since feedback is not mandatory, and not all buyers leave feedback.

A seller's feedback score gets +1 for a positive and -1 for a negative ...  so a seller with two positives and two negatives (+2 and -2) will net out to 0. The feedback percentage is 50% because ... well because 2 positives out 4 ratings over the last 12 months works out to 50%.

The confusion is entirely at your end. When looking at a number, you need to pay attention to what the number represents, not just the number itself. In this case, simply clicking on the number and looking at the seller's feedback profile  answers almost every feedback question you have raised in this post.

You need to vet your seller more carefully, sorry, but had you investigated before buying instead of after, you may have avoided this situation.  It is for your protection to read feedback comments and not just glance at the feedback number.

Contact within three days is largely for the buyer; contact being payment.  Sellers can file an unpaid item report in 48 hrs so it is good to pay before then, but sellers can have longer than three days as their handling time so that is not really applicable to them.

Not every seller ships with tracking or even enters it right away, so lack of tracking doesn't necessarily mean anything.

New sellers often have issues getting out of the gate.  Just wait out the estimated delivery time frame and if you don't have your item, you can open an Item Not Received case.  Panic here is not necessary.

If today is only the 2nd day since the auction ended & you paid, then you are being unreasonable impatient, don’t you think? It would appear you won over the weekend and today is only Tuesday and the day isn’t even half over yet......
