Until relatively recently, when an item sold on eBay I would get an email message telling me what sold, the buyer's address, and a button to add the tracking number. Very convenient. Then eBay decided that was too easy for sellers, so now they only send the item and address info, and you have to log onto eBay to add the tracking number. What a freakin waste of time and bandwidth.
Can any eBay employee tell us why this change was made in email notifications forcing us to have to log into eBay just to enter tracking information rather than be able to do it directly from the email notification? What is the justification? Where is the benefit and who benefits?

You can tag a "blue" and ask for a clarification at any time.
Do not have the answer to why they changed it - likely to keep the site safer, etc. Many sites prohibit access as you describe (direct from an email) and/or further require a duo push to access the account.
Is it a hassle? Yes. But so many breaches/fraud/phishing.....better safe than sorry.
Happy 4th! All the best!

Not sure what You can tag a "blue" means.
In terms of security, I use many sites which allow you to access them directly from the email message they send to you, so I don't buy that. I don't see any security issue in allowing us to click on an email link in order to supply a tracking number. Maybe for accessing your account information, but not something as simple as entering a tracking number for a sale. Doubt there is anyone out there vandalizing tracking numbers for packages.
