I wanted to show you what is happening when I do a broad search for reading glasses.  This is a copy of a post that I just made and I found this post so I wanted to see if you have any input for me.

Hi all!

I am looking for some reading glasses which there are A TON of them for sale here BUT when I did a broad based search, only 199 listings show up as pictured below...furthermore, when I look at "condition" (new, used etc...) it shows that there are 2,023,305 items for sale...unless all of these are summed up in 199 listings...??? (second picture).

Am I doing something wrong here???

No. What you're seeing is a bit of coding weirdness that is specific to Search results that are ordered by "Price + Shipping: lowest first." If you select any other Search result order: Best Match, Time Ending Soonest, etc., you will see the full result set or something close to it. If you select "Price + Shipping: lowest first" specifically, as you did in your screenshot above, you will see a dramatically smaller result set for no apparent reason.

My personal theory is that whoever coded that particular result ordering option also inadvertently included an internal command to de-duplicate the results... maybe not a perfect theory, but it seems to fit, IMHO.

Remember that the Sort selection is not the Search itself, but simply the option for how to sort the results from that Search, so each of those Sort options should be returning the same quantity of results, just in a different order, as chosen. As you have shown, for one Sort option, that's not happening.

At least I know what seems to be going on.  When I redid the search by time ending soonest, the results were 2,100+ so you are right!

I hope that Devon sees this so that he can go back to the staff and let them know what is happening.
