Welcome to the Scrounge Lounge March 2019 Edition

Our History: The Scrounge Lounge formed on the old Auction Listings board in 2003.

Who are we? Ebay buyers and sellers who love the thrill of the hunt and the thrill of the $ELL.
We find treasures in the usual, and at times, unusual places.
Here in the Lounge we share our finds, talk about sales, share our successes and our mistakes, we ask and answer questions, help identify widgets, and we'd love to hear about all your scrounging adventures!

Kyal, we lived in Louisville for a couple of years 1962-64.  I can't remember which year but it got to -18 below 0.  The river froze over and all buildings and stores were closed so they could conserve the oil barged in for the hospitals.  The door locks on our cars froze in the open position.  We got up every 2 hours to go start the cars and let them run a little.  Our little apt was heated by gravity so we lived in the basement.  Not one of my favorite memories.  😞

M*M,  glad you got home ok.  Do you keep blankets, water and some snacks in your car?  They used to make warmers / small blankets you could run off a cigarette lighter.  Ho[e you go prepared for the weather.

Patd, Thanks! Me too!! You could tell, I'm sure haha.  My winter gear is sufficient, yes.  My issue is that I can't afford problems, and I scare myself with the 'what if' line of thinking, other drivers, surprises, etc.

The lighter in my car doesn't work, my car is 20 years old, to top it off I had 'low tire air" warning on on the way to work. I left home a couple hours early, as soon as it started snowing, and stopped at my friend Cindy's to kill some time and when I left there I put some air in one tire at the little gas station/store, but that dummy light wouldn't go off...it's not really a 'light' it's a panel with buttons you push to see your oil pressure, radiator temperature, etc. I've got to check all the tires today. One great thing is that I have a big car. A Buick Park Avenue and another great thing is I had 120 lbs of sand in the trunk. You can tell when driving on slippery or icy roads, much more stable.

Next time I'm staying at work til it's over.

I could walk if I had to, with what I have, parka, but my boots are pretty worthless if it was super cold.  I bought a bottle of lemonade and I carry a bag of almonds, it's not like I'd be stranded for long or couldn't walk to a farmhouse.., I did see several vehicles so I wasn't out there alone or in the middle of nowhere. Drama drama! Much of it I bring on myself. I think of every thing that could go wrong but I do it anyway...kinda weird like I still need to prove something to myself, but I did grow up here so BTDT, lived in Alaska for 5 years. If that doesn't cure you of fear nothing will. I'm much more paranoid these days, not so fond of going to the edge of "EXTINCTION" (just had to say that, reference to Survivor!)

I finally got the 'seller update' email.
Just more 'work' to read it all. Looks horrific.
I don't even know what or where "Seller Hub" is! Is that for store people?

LOL @ the edge of extinction. I got the reference.
Thinking about everything that can go wrong helps you be prepared. I probably would have done the same as you and drove home. And, it's always the other drivers that scare me the most. Too many people that think they are invinsible. Glad you made it safe and sound.

We hit two estate sales this morning. I bought four christmas ornaments. Nothing special but four for a buck, can't go wrong. When I break my camera out later I'll snap some pics.

HAHAHA Kay. I knew you'd get it, (and Pat too)

Right, other drivers bother me the most too, just too close for comfort even in good conditions!

Yep, I'm sure you're right about that. Preparedness is a lifesaver.

My GF cindy is very picky, worse than me. I didn't want to just drop in like that.

I asked her last week if she wanted me to stop in after work a little after 8 pm, she said oh no that was too late.  LOL

The local thrift store (that I helped establish some 30 years ago with a grant from the state) let me pick a couple of boxes of donations this morning.  When I get around to it, I'll post a few pics.  Nothing earth-shattering, but there was a pair of those Smith Glass rearing horse bookends and a glass "penguins atop iceberg" paperweight that I can't identify.

Good Sunday Mornin' All.

I see the seller hub now, first thing I saw this morning opening up My Ebay.

And found some unsold listings from December that were not in My Ebay unsold listings yesterday.  So that's good. I was thinking I had to redo those entire listings. Good. At least I don't have to redo everything.

Patd, "Long tail" items....I was going to ask you what that meant, I was guessing you were talkin' about stemware, then was just checking into the Seller Hub threads and the first one I clicked on, this poster was using that terminology.  How about that.  I've never seen those words together regarding 'Things that take a long time to sell'?  I have a lot of those!

I was going to list a couple glass items yesterday, forgot how bogged down the item specifics are. I can't even answer half of those questions about glass. Geez. I gave up.  Way too many choices.

I am like you    MM.    Worry about everything that might happen.    Could happen and whatever.    Just the way my family is.    I drove to an auction yesterday over icy snow packed roads.    I went the two lane road so I could drive slow.   Made it just fine.    Left the auction early and the roads were better but it was snowing hard from the east so it was not hard to see thank goodness.

I do hate that low tire light.    Need to remember to check the tires once a week and make sure in the hot and cold changes that they have not lost air.    Never remember to check them though.    Last time it lit up DH was there so we were visiting friends and he drove the car in the friends shop and they aired up all the tires.   That was great timing.

Auction was fun.   Far away people did not come and prices were lower.   I bought paper weights and a huge box of cookie cutters and old perfect coloring books.   All for extremely low prices.    Have enough stuff for my booth for all summer.    A cool birdhouse fabric wall hanging.   A few other things.   It was relaxing and fun.

They sold the most beautiful quilts I have ever seen.   Pretty good prices for now days.   All hand sewn.    60 to 140 dollars each.   The lady had lovely taste in colors.    She bought old quilts that needed fixed up and re did them to a perfect condition.    It was a really nice auction.   People could get what they wanted and not pay a lot.

Seller Hub I don't know either.    Our friend in the north west would know and could explain it I am sure.

Hi Sun.  So good to hear you had a great day buying. Oh my at those quilt prices and how neat that person repaired and fixed them.  Sweet!  I wish you'd have gotten all of them so we could see them!

I like the secondary roads too but we've had so much snow lately, not a good idea, need to be on a main road for the 'just in case' scenarios.

Darn it, now it's -11 and I didn't go out yesterday at all so shot myself in the foot, will run over to Kwik Trip tomorrow! It will only be -1 - 6 above.

Actually, I like my warning push button panel, gives me some good information quick...of course it could be glitchy like the 'dummy lights' that sometimes will get stuck "on"... but so far it has served me well. When I drove to CO a few years ago, I used it often. Gives you a little peace of mind.

Clicked on my ebay this am and there was a big notice on top about Seller Hub. I like it. More options, you can opt out as well but think I'll stay.  You can enter different changes to all your listings from there, including changing FP to auction.  We couldn't do that before!

Yup, SO much easier to drive in snow during daylight. That night time stuff is scary. It was pitch black sky the other night.

Anyone get a listing special?
100 auction style listings today through 3/9/19
Call me cynical, I'm wondering why auction style only. My guess is they don't want to offer 30-day fixed price which will likely end after the GTC changeover. *shrug* I'll probably use some of them. Either with BIN or list on the high end and leave the best offer in place.

Sun, the auction sounds great. Sorry that you had to deal with snow and ice in your travels but thankfully you got to and from in one piece. The offerings sound wonderful. I'm glad that you were able to get some good junque at good prices.

I didn't know there were options other than the seller hub. That was the default when I began selling again. I click 'my ebay' and it lands on the overview page. It took a little while to adjust, like everything else ebay does. But it's okay. The only trouble I've had was when I bought something and couldn't find my purchase history. But I figured it out.

No special for me. About the only ones I get any more are those "100 at a nickel each" where you have to plow through your freebies before you get to them. Thanks but no thanks.

Kyal, the nickel special could work if it was offered at the end of the month.

M*M, the seller hub is where my ebay takes me.
I did check, and found my way back to the older version (that you described) but saw no way to make it stick. Which is okay. Like I said, I'm used to working from the hub.
