Did you mean:

Scammers

Be careful with someone offering to pay you twice as much as your posted sale price. There are scammers on eBay offering 2x, then they ask you to ship to another person in need with a gift card that you need to purchase. All you need to do is give them your bank account number so they can deposit the gift card money.

Identify these people - They don't have any ratings - They just opened the eBay account number .

Tried to steal my bank account.

That scam is back again? I haven't heard of it in over 15 years.

History really does repeat itself.

The buyer required you to buy gift cards so they can purchase? ..didn’t that tell you something right there? Plus they asked for your bank account info? And ship to another address? Nope… that’s not how a real transaction works.
Hope you didn’t fall for that.

Buyer offering to pay twice as much.

Buyer asking to ship to another person.

Buyer asking for you to buy gift cards.

Buyer asking or a bank account number.

Gee, I would have never guessed that this might be a scammer.

Thanks for the heads up!

Glad you did not fall for this; however, a mod is going to come along and zap your post as well as give you a warning.  No matter how egregious the scam attempt may be, we're not allowed to "name and shame" here.

This was emphasized in a recent update of board policies.

And everywhere else.  The one you describe is pretty easy to detect.  Other scams are more subtle.  We have to stay on our toes 24/7.  Thanks for the heads up.

Hmm "gift cards" equals scam. Simple plain and no questions needed.

someone offering to pay you twice as much as your posted sale price

For an auction that is acceptable.

For a buy it now listing that is a scam.

ask you to ship to another person

That is why ebay policy tells you to only ship to the address given with the payment made  on ebay.

with a gift card that you need to purchase

That is considered an outside ebay transaction as the gift card was not listed on ebay  for the buyer to purchase.  A huge policy violation.

give them your bank account number so they can deposit the gift card money

Another policy violation by providing personal contact info to receive money outside   of ebay. All buyers can easily use the PAY NOW icon to pay. This is how ebay is set up .

If people READ ebay policies then they would not get scammed. That is why the polices are put in place to protect members from being scammed. BUT they have to be followed.

I cannot believe people actually need warnings of this type. Reminds me of putting a warning on a gas can that reads "do not drink the contents". Any seller should know if the person wants their item, they will just click BIN. There is no need for contact; just delete those messages and move on.

eBay sent me a warning not to offend the scammer.

Oh good DOG lol - but yeah, somehow I'm not surprised.  I received a warning not to offend someone who had yelled at me.

This is an old scam but it never hurts to post a reminder - not everyone online is very savvy - people do fall for this.

I always like to play along with it. They ask for access to your computer using any desk and rather giving them the digits on the gift card, I redeem it right in front them. Gets them so mad every time

All new sellers should write this in all of their ads.  "We ONLY accept payments through the Ebay system. We ONLY ship to the address that Ebay provides.  We do NOT accept gift cards. All payments are due in 96 hours.

Do NOT respond to buyers if they ask for your email address or phone number.

I think what you really meant to say was "We do not include gift cards with the item."  The seller doesn't have an option to decline payment with a gift card ... in fact, the seller doesn't even know that the buyer used one.

Or you can identify them by just using common sense.
