What's the scam??
On a new selling account we have had a number of offers on our items that have then been retracted...different buyer each time but all with zero feedback, based in Malaysia and now no longer a registered user with the message of "i have a question about your item, please contact on whatsapp and a phone number formatted not to be automatically blocked by ebay.
I obviously haven't responded as it looks very dodgy but im just not sure what the actual scam is??? Im thinking its to get a phone number to then access the account possibly but really not sure what the point of it is...can anyone help??

Typical ebay "text me" scammer. Their usual plan is to draw communication 'off ebay' and have you"sell" the item to them. The closest you are going to get to any real money is a phony payment notification.
If you are naïve enough to fall for the first stage, they often would like you to include a couple of pre-paid gift cards since it is a gift for their niece (uncle, grandmother, sister) for their birthday (anniversary, first communion, wedding).
Once you learn to avoid these, I would read up here on the "change of address" scammers as well.

the scam is to get you to take communication off of ebay.then they try to trick you
some tricksters just want a good deal.other are bad crooks and gift card crooks
it all starts with a text or phone number
its best to just ignore these people, you dont owe them a response at all

Yep... looks very dodgy. Good catch and stay vigilant.
