Scam buyers

Hi.  I’m a new seller. I am not using the auction. I’ve been getting full price offers instead of them using “buy it now”. I countered with first full price offer and said to use buy it now.  Crickets. Got 3 more of the same on different items and accepted. Then I was emailed to text them back to answer a question. Told them to email through eBay only. Crickets again. Reported to eBay. Real buyer had been hacked. I’ve declined several of these types of offers. Should I decline or just ignore?  Thanks

Ignore any offer that is at your BIN price.   Those buyers are playing games trying to scam you.

It's really not recommended to sell high priced items here when you are new to ebay. There are a million different ways you can be cheated and not only that but you are a HUGE target when they see you have little to no feedback and are new.

The first thing I'd suggest before even worrying about sales, or even posting items for that matter but that's besides the point, would be to study up on the following 3 links and be sure you understand them backwards and forwards:

eBay Money Back Guarantee

https://pages.ebay.com/ebay-money-back-guarantee/

Selling Policies

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-policies/selling-policies?id=4214

Managed Payments

https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/service-and-payments/managed-payments-on-ebay.html

At a minimum, you need to understand all of the information within those 3 links provided.

If you want to further educate yourself as to how ebay works inside and out, I recommend spending any free time you might have just reading threads on this forum. Look at some of the issues that may arise or you think may apply to you and read how others handle them and the knowledgeable community here helps guide others to solve their problems.

Wish you the best of luck!

You are putting yourself at risk of getting scammed right out of the gate by listing higher priced dolls.  Most of us veterans here will bet that you get damaged on arrival claims or INAD cases.

Having written that I would only use BIN with immediate payment required and only local pickup for the first few months just to see what happens.

You can also contact doll clubs to look for shows where you could sell in person in the fall.

Maybe only in the top scam categories like electronics and trading cards and stuff?

It seems some get past em some how:

risky to the seller and of course the buyer....

High value antique dolls are a high fraud category-- on both sides of the transaction.

With 0 feedback, honest collectors will be suspicious of you, and scammers will look on you as fresh meat.

You did the right thing.

Personally I would remove Best Offer and add Immediate Payment Required to your Fixed Price listings.

Alternatively, you could adjust the BO to automatically reject any "too low" and accept automatically any ...mmm... acceptable offers.

But with Immediate Payment your dolls remain visible until someone actually pays.

And remember that eBay will have a Hold on your customer's cleared payment for up to 21 days (shorter if you are in the USA or have Proof of Delivery/ Signature Confirmation).

Selling high value anything without a track record (feedback) is a Very Bad Idea.

Please do some buying to get FB. And sell only items you could lose and not be devastated first.

Do you have any doll clothes that don't fit your babies? Extra limbs? Accessories like that carriage?

Start with those.

Selling online has a steep learning curve.

You are already on the right track by refusing to answer texts.

Best wishes.

That is because Buy It Now requires the buyer to pay for the item, and these people have no intention of doing that.

Reported to eBay

It takes 30 seconds to create an eBay account and send a message. So in the unlikely event eBay acts on a report, it would be unlikely to have much effect.

Real buyer had been hacked

No one has been hacked.

Should I decline or just ignore?

I don't think it matters either way.
