We had a buyer who created their account on 10/7 order 5 items from us totaling over $700. This screams scam to us, but we are at a loss of what to do? They have not sent us e-mails and paid through “Buy it now”. Our ratings are 100%, and of course we are afraid if we decline this sale, it will be ruined, but we also fear we are going to get screwed. The items are all porcelain and I’m sure someone could report them as broken, no matter how good we pack them. What are our options? We are also trying to figure out how they show they have 13 positive reviews if they just created the account on October 7th, 2023. Today is October 8th.

I am in the process of remodeling my house. I needed, initially, about $3000.00 worth of very specialized hardware (not available on eBay). So I did a Google search, found what I needed, created an account with them and placed my order the same day.
I then created a new account with a different supplier to get the exotic lumber I needed (it's called Lacewood - very chi chi).
And another supplier to get the very exotic porch lamp.
etc etc etc
In due course I received my items. I am pleased beyond belief and moving on to the next project.
Do you see the similarity?
If you panic that easily maybe you should rethink tour business model.

So many feedbacks in a day is what would give me the doubts.
I had a brand new account buy from me and the next day before I shipped the account was No Longer a Registered User.
They had 3 or 4 feedbacks overnight. That means they went on a buying spree with stolen credit card.
How many days handling do you have in your listings?
Did they buy your most expensive items?
I might delay shipping to see if the account goes NARU.

Yes, they got several of our most expensive listings. Tomorrow is Columbus Day and today is Sunday, so that gives us a little longer to ship, I think we have until 10/12.

I was told by a moderator here a few days ago a buyer can leave feedback even before buying something. I can't name them here for shame the name game. It is possible 13 items were sold to a friend and that friend gave those feedbacks immediately after paying. You can check buyer and what was purchased...if you can't...that's a problem. I can sell someone 13 items at .99.
No one, sorry other moderators, but this is my own opinion, no one buys 5 items on an account created over nite. Plus $700. and they are all breakables. A seller's nightmare.
I would google the buyer's address at least. A house. A business(might send it to a business). Freight forward...that would be a nightmare.
I also looked under items now for sale and notice you seem a little over priced than other sellers of some same items still for sale. Why buy 5 items from you and not 5 different buyers?
If it is a sale near you...really close I would ship it. Across the country...5 breakable items...scary.
Check the address and google it.

This is true.
Delay shipping until it needs to be shipped.
eBay can come back and tell you in an email not to ship items out. And sometimes, well, usually all the time, when "no longer a registered user"...you can't refund anyone. But the credit card holder can still do a credit card dispute refund. I had a few of these and got to keep the funds. Doesn't happen often.

Wait until 10/12. Might get a email from eBay not to ship out.

Why on earth would that scream scam? You sell collectibles. Does it not seem reasonable that a collector of those types of items might want to buy more than one?

The one good thing is that Christmas decor is not real high on the scam list.

Sure they do. I sold 4 coffee mugs in a single transaction to a brand new buyer a few months back.
Looking at their feedback, that's the first and only purchase they've made on eBay so far. They paid, I shipped, it went just fine.

Totally agree I order quite a bit of stuff online and utilize a guest account in almost all situations simply because I don't want another account to keep track of and in most cases it is probably a one time purchase of one or multiple items from a supplier that has the best price and shipping.

Newly registered buyer = Not a concern.
Bought more than one item = Not a concern.
If they are scammers, couldn't they have bought MORE than what they bought?
Also, scammers don't tend to buy collectables.
You should ship this order just like any other.
There are certain risks that come with selling online.
You need to weigh these risks and decide if selling online is for you.

Just a new buyer. Your items are NOT what I would consider scam material. The scammers are after IPhones, computers, expensive jewelry, ultra expensive collectibles etc.

I’ve had numerous buyers who buy as a guest, they will show as being a new member that signed up that day.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Did they pay? Then go a head and ship.

The answer to that is very simple…they also bought and paid for items from other sellers, the same day they bought from you, that utilize automatic feedback after receiving payment.
