Same Day Shipping Countdown Shown On Listing Pages

Just noticed today eBay has added a countdown timer on items that offer same day shipping.

Pretty sure this is new because I haven't noticed it before, though it's possible I just hadn't seen it because not a lot of sellers I've looked at are using same day shipping.

Also interesting that in the Stores  view with the Quick View pop up, the messaging is slightly different. On item page it's "ships today if paid" and in Store Quick View it's "get it on time if you order" - this is the same item from the same seller in Store Quick View.

Personally like the item page one better as it clearly communicates the estimated delivery is from time of payment, not when order is placed, and maybe helps reinforce or add some urgency to the idea of paying quickly.

I definitely think it''s good that eBay is drawing more attention to same day shipping for those who are able to offer it, but of course it could also pose problems during the holiday season if there are carrier delays and the estimates are not always accurate as we've seen in years past.

I used to have one day shipping but usually shipped same day.  I had to up my handling time when the local PO didn't always do same day scanning on packages that come in after 3PM.  I don't think eBay thought of that.

I would say you also need to be aware of what your same-day shipping deadline actually IS now that Ebay is drawing buyer attention to it. In my selling account I cannot recall what mine is - but I have 1-day shipping instead so that would not be as important. (I usually ship same-day regardless but do not want to be locked in to that.)

The PO scanning is definitely something that has to happen on time. Unfortunately mine is slipping and so I have to be sure to either get a kiosk scan or a counter scan when I am in there. A bigger deal for me is that our afternoon outbound truck is not operating right now - contract ran out - so everything has to go on the evening truck instead. In the case of nearby destinations that is unfortunately now adding a day to the estimate date of arrival.

The mid-afternoon truck was often able to get packages to the local facility fast enough that they would be through there and out the door on the next leg of their journey by midnight or so. That is not happening anymore. Hopefully they will get another contract worked out for mid-afternoon departures again.

@toysaver I think eBay did think of that...kind of...which is why they allow sellers to set cut off times for same day shipping to account for any business specific issues or limitations you might have.

So like in your case, if you know your local PO has problems after 3 PM, you could set your cutoff for 1 PM to give yourself enough time to get the PO.

If you did that, anything that came in after 1 PM would not have to be shipped until the next day, which should give your PO time to get it scanned without you getting a late shipment ding.

Great point @itsjustasprain ! Sellers can check what their cut-off time is at https://www.ebay.com/ship/prf

Before I clicked into the post and just saw the thumbnail from the forum page, those looked like really hideous shoes. Took me a minute after opening the discussion to re-focus and realize they're mounted lights. 😂

"Ships today" countdown is good.

"Get it on time" is bad and misleading. eBay doesn't do "Guaranteed Delivery" any more (probably lost too much $$ on it) and nobody can control carrier delays.

About time! This is the sort of thing I have seen when buying online for YEARS.

Temu goes one better (sort of), after you go through checkout you get a notification that you can add to your order for up to X hours (and then provide a near endless list of stuff that they think you might want).

FYI - The X hours is variable depending on what time of day (in China) that you place your initial order.

And here I was looking to see if I could get a pair of those hideous shoes! 😭 then I found they were lights.
