Sales down because of Active Content?

I thought eBay was going to remove active content?

i just ran a scanner and have HUNDREDS of listings with active content. Also a little confused what it is.

I have a link in my descriptions that take you to my store, I'm guessing that's active content?

is it not auto removed?

Says i have 841 listings out it 1,200 to repair. I feel this might be a reason for slow sales.

Jusr remove the links in my listings?

I thought the links were considered active content, and if they were not removed listing would be hidden. I have to go back and search for that, but pretty sure I read that.

Wow. That makes sense. But it doesn't make sense that it says I have ZERO active content listings

Actually no that's false. If you check my sold listings even one had a link

I thought the embedded videos only were considered active content.  As long as you used HTML5 links all was fair?  Please correct me if I'm wrong - but I thought I was all good?

hmmm, I do see that link in your sold item. Then I did a lot of work removing mine for no reason : (

I will try to find the thread that said it needed to be removed.

I just ran the active content screener on my store, and it found 2 listings. 1 is a link to another item in my store, and the other shows posted by ebay mobile.

In May, I checked my listings and my store link came up as active content in all my listings. Removed all. Then ebay says all listings must be mobile friendly. Once again 2000 listings edited. Now stock photos provided by ebay will not upload. wash... rinse... repeat... It's getting old real fast..... I can't list anything new, I'm to busy editing old listings.

I'm doing this now for the mobile friendly checker.  I guess there is no way to update them in bulk?

I may be misunderstanding this thing  but, it was pointed out to me that to remove the content, I had to open each listing individually, switch the description window, search the HTML for the offense, remove it manually as part of the revision.

The listings would then become inactive (hidden from viewer sight) if content remained after June... not that eBay would remove the content for you - just hide the listings (while still being paid for I might add) until the seller removed the content.

Since I had almost 1000 listings, this has been a tedious task.  After throwing a tantrum, I managed to get about 600 done before the deadline, I ended many others that remained which still needed work.  I have noticed that a few I left up as an experiment, were indeed removed from search views (hence not selling).  Afterward, I edited a few of those, gave it 2 hours to re-index and they appeared in the search when I looked for them again.

Shipscript  generously posted a free program that she wrote to assist sellers in finding the naughty listings as to pinpoint the errors, but she is way smarter than I, and I got lost trying to use it - although I am sure some folks had no problems.  Later, there was a tool added in the last few days of May that helped to find the content - but it was too little too late as I had already done hundreds of them, plus it was not available in bulk - still had to open and edit each individual listing.  Now for those like me still working on this task, the tool has been removed, so back to square one.

What has aggravated me the most about this situation I reckon is that eBay placed the currency converter into my listings on their own accord years ago - I removed the permission several times and it kept coming back, so I eventually gave up and let it be. This is the culprit that I had to waste my time on - manually removing this code.  Just not right. I did not ask for it, did not want it, did not need it (no foreign sales), did not approve it, but I had the honor to become cross-eyed to search the code, find it and manually remove it to be compliant with their mandate.  UGGGGGG!

Sales down because of Active Content?

Just got this in an email today (followed a link that was provided in there):

To make your listing mobile friendly, you will need to ensure two things.
  1. Make sure your viewport is set correctly by copying and pasting this code into the viewport header if it's not there already.
    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">

  2. Make sure your content fits the mobile screen.

I do not use Ebay to list.  I use a 3rd party application to list.  1 month later of utterly dismal sales and now they're telling me.  Thanks eBay!

Active content is java script or menus within the content, or other such scripts running for related products, videos, general fancy-ness of the listing. You also have to make all the changes yourself, Ebay will not autoremove the features in the listing, I believe they will just remove the listing (i could be wrong).

Sales are down for everyone, its July, and Amazon has been doing an Amazing job of taking the market with Prime day and other incentives (5% rewards VISA card).
