SLUGGISH INPUT

Is anyone having trouble inputting sales information? My input typing stops after about 5-6 letters and then frees up again in about a minute. Scrolling is the same when scrolling down the page. It is like when using dial up.  I don't have a problem except on eBay. This just started after an auto windows update on my laptop.

Even if the problem is only eBay it can still be an issue on your computer.  If it were happening to me I'd delete cookies and cache (aka clear browsing data) and restart my computer.

I have this happen from time to time - my theory is that there's a lot of website traffic as it doesn't happen on other sites.

Yes, same here. None of the popular remedies...clear cache etc help

I don't think the usual clear cache thing works in these cases - there's no thrashing, etc., just slow. Meanwhile everything else is running fine. It clears up on its own.

@micromos

When something like this happens, it is usually a local problem not a site issue.  Here are a few ideas.

1.  Clear your cache and cookies, clear your browser data.

2.  Shut down whatever device you are using completely, then start it back up.

3.  If none of that works, try changing your browser.

4.  Still having issues, check you internet connection to make sure it is working properly.

Try temporarily disabling add-ons like grammar checkers or language tools.

It is likely a pop up program the OP is using that is preventing Ebay for loading normally.  Or there is some other program on the OP's device that is messing things up a bit.

Thanks for all the advice. It seems the issue has corrected itself.

I’m convinced that certain people decide how to respond to a thread before they even get into it and read what is happening. They read the title, go to their handy folder of “helpful“ replies, copy and paste.

Rarely does anyone who starts a thread like this post enough information to identify what the cause of such a bottleneck might be.

It might help if one posted

The speed of the internet connection. And its type - fibre, cable, 5G, satellite?

How the computer is connected to the router. Wired or WiFi?

Whether the computer is in a high population density area or not.

What other tasks are running on the computer.

This is purely anecdotal, but I've seen what OP describes when using an older Windows 10/Edge PC. By studying the processes, services, etc. in Task Manager, I've speculated it's tied to Windows checking for updates, sending telemetry, or otherwise "phoning home" in some way. Like others have said, the issue always corrects itself eventually.

I've never experienced it on my much newer Windows 11/Firefox machine, but I rarely use that for listing.

I have seen this off and on for years, to the point where it is totally crippling. It will do it across browers and accross accounts and it will get worse every time you hit that sell similar button. I only get this problem on ebay listings and when replying to facebook posts that have a lot of traffic.

It doesn't seem to crop up nearly as much if using Edge as it does with Chrome and Firefox so when I want to list a lot I do it in Edge.

I have heard this blamed on cookies or temporary internet files. I have cleared them, sometimes the problem is back in minutes, sometimes hours, sometimes it doesn't leave.

I have seen this blamed on templates. I erased all my templates and it changed nothing.

In the past there have been issues with some browser add-ons conflicting with eBay. Certain ad blocker filters can cause slow loading search results on eBay at times; grammar checkers and language tools have been associated with extremely slow text entry, where the cursor jumps to the bottom of the entry field after each character; certain tools like Malwarebytes' BrowserGuard have been associated with problems as well.

When problems are encountered, I often recommend trying a completely new installation of a popular browser with default settings and no add-ons installed, or possibly a private or incognito browser window to quickly rule out certain kinds of problems.
