Riddle me this

While creating a new listing, I have listed it today June 24th 2024, and applied 5 business days included "handling" for estimated delivery which, now correct me if I am wrong the soonest would be June 29th 2024 if one were to sell at this moment? However "ebay" is showing June 27th 2024, which would indicate to a buyer who would expect it by June 27th 2024....I know it is a little early in the morning...but?  Why do I put 5 days for my listings? It keeps me out of trouble, while I always try to send the same day as ordered....it gives me some breathing room just in case the proverbial crap-ola happens. No it does not affect MY sales.

eBay determines EDDs (estimated delivery date) based on factors including carrier estimates and a seller's historical handling time, not their actual handling time. So if you typically ship the bulk of your orders in 1-2 days, that's what eBay will use when determining EDD. I don't know of any seller that likes this method eBay uses. I certainly don't.

Would that also lead to a buyer possibly leaving a non removalable neg feedback and ding the stars system, which when and if adds up over time affect the amount of fees ebay will charge the seller, as well as standing in the amount of exposure during searches?....The estimated delivery date should have zero to do with the internal performance of when a seller ships based on ebay tracking how and when a seller ships as long as it is within the given period indicated by the seller when listing....It also does not make the buyer aware of this, nor does it reflect factual information that was chosen by the seller....otherwise it is pointless and was not what the postal service indicates either....I, on a number of occasions get the message "where is my item it was supposed to be here....." and then having to check to see what is up, only to find it was ebay who mislead the buyer.   So should that not require a disclaimer by the seller that the delivery date does not reflect the actual EDD as listed by the seller, and become ebays responsibility to get it there on ebay's stated EDD? It seems ebay has a wonder way of creating these issues only to let the sellers take the heat.

Feedback and DSRs have zero bearing on fees or seller performance rating.

Any time I've had a buyer leave neg FB over late delivery, as long as I shipped within my handling time and had a delivery scan from the carrier, eBay gave me no problem when requesting FB removal. 🤷

The estimated shipping times can be confusing but i have had no issues at all.

When i had my store, i would choose a generic shipping policy (set up which states 1-10 days shipping) and also would add a handling time of 1-5 days depending on the items i would sell. (most 2 days)
I also would ship most if not all the same day (or next depending on time). Almost every sale i would exceed my shipping expectations for the customer. I also would send a message to them once i shipped it (form response mail saved that i can add there name to personalize) to let them know i upgraded there shipping time (sometimes would add upgrade shipping method as well). Most of the time i will get a thank you message back but more importantly, i squelch any issues that i did not ship in time. Since i love to communicate to my buyers, 😁 I would also track there items and give them updates (form response messages) to keep them informed of any delays or when there item is out for delivery. Not everyone has the time to do this but i streamline my process so i can accomplish this quickly each morning. YMMV
