Revision History

If you are seeing eBay's latest garbage format with ads all over the page and a separate tab for the description, there doesn't seem to be a link to revision history. I like being able to check revisions to see if a competitor is reacting to being undercut and the date they made changes. You can still find it by adding the item number to the end of this:

I like when buyers can't see my revision history, so buyers can't see when I reacted to a competitor raising their prices.  I still can't believe the revision history on an item is available to anyone other than the seller themselves.

I looked at some yesterday with no problem, and just now checked one without having to use  .com/rvh/

Just clicked there in the listing.

I have the view that does not require me to click on another "tab" for description

The greatest thing since sliced bread is when they disabled viewing the "sold" $$ amounts on multiple quantity item listings by clicking on the # sold ðŸ˜‹

You sell mostly sub-$20 stuff, and more than half of that is sub-$10. If I was a buyer who wanted something you are selling, I'd just buy it. Your listing photos look great, so I wouldn't be bargain hunting or looking at revisions at those prices. Maybe I'm not like other buyers.

I like the revision history as a seller for scenarios like this:

  • I have x-number of something to sell
  • I check lowest prices available on eBay
  • I undercut the price of the lowest seller who has more than one or two for sale
  • I periodically search for that item and one day I find I no longer have the lowest price

This tells me when the price was lowered and item history tells me if that seller had any sales after the price cut. All useful information to me.

But it is still there if you know the link.

I'm seeing the new format that I despise on PC, W10 and it happens in both Edge and Chrome, normal and incognito, so I just get the shaft no matter what with eBay.

True, but the common everyday buyer likely does not know that. Common once in a while seller like me doesn't know it ðŸ˜‚

When I see some of my competition is once again getting $40 for an item that we had been selling for $30 because some "numpty" was cluelessly driving the price down I also bump mine back up. Nice that it does not simply link to display those $30 sales by someone just clicking on that "38 sold".

Buyer likely turned off when they see that 1/3 price jump. Note......  before "numpty" came along we were getting $46 +

This is happening all the time in the computer categories this year. Sadly, it is a lot of long-time established sellers desperately lowering prices. Before eBay did whatever they did to ruin this place, people who were selling at dumb prices weren't a problem. They would list and either a seller of that type of item would snatch it up right away to resell or a buyer would find it. Problem solved. Now, low price items languish here and buyers start expecting those prices. This is why I sell so many things locally for just under "eBay low price". If I have to sell stuff low, eBay taking 15% and me shipping is out of the question. I'll keep all of the money.

Thanks (I think) but I've heard that if a buyer wanted something I was selling, they'd click on the "Find Similar" thing, get all distracted, wander away, and never be able to find their way back, instead of just buying it.  At least, that's what I've been told.  I guess you're not like other buyers.

Actually, they're scans, not photos.

I think this is the point eBay is missing. If a buyer sees your item in search and is interested enough to click on it, they shouldn't be distracted. If it were me, I would just buy it. If eBay wants people to click on your $14.95 listing and then buy it from someone else for $8, eBay gets 15% of $8, not $14.95. I don't care about saving $6, maybe some people do.

If I were searching for something more expensive, like a $5 1893 Columbus stamp, I would want the best one for the best price. If eBay distracts me into buying one for $800 instead of $1500, eBay again gets 15% of the lesser value even though I may have been willing to buy the $1500.
