How could anyone make a purchase and place a different item in the package to get a refund on that return? Just had that happen for the first time in 20 years of selling on ebay. I guess it was bound to happen. The minute I received the item today, I could tell without out even opening it that something was not right. The weight of the item was off. They were sold a boys sz 18 pair of heavy blue jean shorts and retuned a womens sz 2 camoflague spandex blend shorts. Reported the situation to ebay and had them step in. Within an hour I was told the case was closed in my favor......Thank goodness & AMEN!

I have it set for automatic return, so no communications needed. As soon as the return arrived I went straight to ebay. Didnt bother talking to the buyer!

That's awesome that you won an appeal! Congrats!! I hope that you reported the buyer too.
I had someone return a used item for the first time in 16 years of business a few months ago. Stupidly, and probably for the first time ever, I just gave a refund because ebay sent a message saying it was delivered and I was too tired to walk to the box and get it. I will never do that again. It just goes to show, people will stoop to all kinds of low, even with an $8 religious medal. The minute I opened it I knew it wasn't one of mine. Not only is it old and used, it has a completely different ring on it. Oh well. I'm still glad you won! I wouldn't have thought to do anything about it, except report the buyer for misuse of the return policy.

Unbelievable. So sorry for your situation. I am still a believer that what goes around comes around. By the way this is my families Saint.

WoW, then you are even more lucky that I originally thought in regards to Ebay supporting you and deciding it the way they did. Very lucky indeed.
While you may feel that not communicating with buyers is a good thing, it will bite you at some point. I take it the one negative you have is because you didn't take a moment and notify the buyer why you needed to cancel.

That isn't necessarily a good thing. Many things can be worked out through civil conversation.

Have you heard the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi? Nothing more beautiful exists. ❤️

Buyer confusion rather than outright scamming. There are many more lucrative ways to defraud someone.
What did the buyer say when you contacted them about the mistake? This was a regular return?
No way I am going to make a mistake like that with a totally different item.
Hi @vintagecraze50 i was thinking about someone like my Mom who had a milder form of dementia. There are lots of folks out there who don’t have it together.
My first instinct is to contact the buyer to figure out what happened. The listing was a $10 pair of shorts not an expensive iPhone. So, it is possible this was not an intentional scam. I would want to do some investigation. Contacting the buyer and giving them a chance to rectify their mistake seems a logical step if this was just a return and not a NAD case.
This sounds like a regular return, not a NAD case. The OP doesn’t say it’s a Money Back Guarantee claim. That’s an important distinction that needs clarified. The listing had 14-day return policy. Buyer selected “too big” as the return reason. That is not grounds for a MBG refund, is it?

Thank you for your input and kind reply.
The older I get, the more convinced I am that common sense is inherited. My mid-20s daughter had it as a toddler. My early-30s son is only now starting to get the hang of it.
But assume that it is learned behavior. Like so many other things we learn, common sense is transmitted via human interaction. You cannot learn it from behind a phone or a computer screen. Regards

I think that is a great observation. For me, I have two young adults [late 20's] and both have a whole lot of logic.
As a parent, I started my kids with puzzle toys as soon as they started being able to manipulate their hands. Small at first and getting more complicated over their toddler years. I'm a firm believer that this helps to give kids a foundation of troubleshooting and logic. And I've got two high functioning young adults to prove it.

That woman is probably looking all over for her spandex shorts! "Now where did I put those? I know they were here."

That's okay. It was a first. I scrubbed it up and it's now blessed and on my friend's dog (he wanted it), so it didn't go to waste.
St. Francis of Assisi is awesome! Between his love for animals and the amazing prayer for peace, he is the perfect saint for a family and merchants too! Thanks for sharing that with me.

it's a perfect prayer! After all, peace does begin with all of us. Peace to you.
