I am Top Seller Plus, therefore we do accept returns. This item was $140, and cost me 30.25 to ship because I offer free shipping. It's an air mattress, and the buyer now seems to have buyers remorse. I'm wondering if any of you have insight into this type of situation, or should I just accept the return and hope the air mattress is still in good shape when I get it back. Appreciate your responses.

This is patently false. If the seller has a "free returns" policy, that means they accept returns for ANY reason, and they are required to pay for return shipping AND give a full refund of the buyer's payment.

@ruellas wrote:Running into a similar issue myself selling air mattresses. Just removed all our listings in order to change them all to “no returns”. If you do some research online you’ll find that air mattresses almost always lose air from one night to the next. So most people don’t understand this and want a refund or return for a defective item when it’s not actually defective.
This is why all the big box stores no longer accept returns on them and will only do an exchange. So I guess that’s your other option too.
If the buyer claims that the item is defective, your "no returns" policy is meaningless.

If you don't like it, then choose a "no returns" policy or a "buyer pays return shipping" policy.

No it isn't false. Sellers with free returns still have the option of holding back the original shipping charge as long the shipping charge was listed separately..not as 'free shipping'.

Thank you. Since this post I have changed to my booth at the flea market, marking them all "No Returns".

The way Free Shipping works is, the buyer paid you $140 of which $30.25 was the cost of shipping and $109.75 was the price of the air mattress.
There is no Free Shipping. The buyer pays for shipping even if she doesn't know how much.
It's an advertising ploy like No Sales Tax- the merchant pays the sales tax out of the price you pay. You are not one up on the government, you are getting a 5-10% discount, which most people would not even consider a deal.
Or BOGO (Buy One , Get One). You are not getting one of your purchases free, you are getting a discount on the price of both.

IF it was a false return.
Saying not as described when the returned item shows nothing wrong - false return, withhold the original shipping plus half of the original payment.
Changed my mind, I don't like it - legitimate return, you can't withhold shipping or any part of the payment.
Of course, this depends on the conscience and honesty of the seller. eBay does keep track of this stuff and if it's abused I'm sure it can eventually cause issues for the seller.
Free returns means free returns for any reason or no reason at all. The return shipping is paid for by the seller. It doesn't necessarily mean that the entire payment will be refunded.
