Return request question

A Buyer has asked for my address to send an item back ... am I allowed to send my address in eBay Messaging on a sales transaction or will they view this as supplying personal information illegally?

You're fine. But I'd suggest going through the official process, just in case.

Hi Mr Lincoln,

I would never do that now.

I would simply go to the paypal transaction and look up their email address and contact them with it.

Return request question

Isn't it provided for them in the Return console?

OK kids, time to get the Dodge loaded up again. I hear 'Poppy's By the Tree' calling. This trip might be a long one too.

Return request question

@mr_lincoln, don't they have your return address on the shipping label? With the items you sell, I might be concerned if they discarded packaging before asking to return, and there's no telling what kind of packaging they'll use for the return. If this is an item that's likely to be damaged in return shipping, I'd quote the "must be returned in original condition" for full refund statement. Maybe they'll take greater care in packing it.

I personally wouldn't risk it anymore.  Have they opened a return case? If so, I'd let them know they should be able to access your address in there.  If they haven't opened a return, I'd instruct them on doing so, then at least you recoup your fvf's and don't risk a defect.

Return request question

@swenson8781, @dcintennessee, @chrysylys, @thenobletuckylife, @jpcustomsonline

Thanks all, yes I think the best approach is to have them go through The Resolution Center and make it official.  Was going to check the PayPal transaction for thier email address although on a recent local pick up the Buyer's email was not there, they messaged me their cell number which was NOT blocked, almost fell off my chair.

Anyway, for this return request, I messaged back asking if they had the original shipping label but suspect they threw it out and am waiting to hear from them.

The return shipping is like 17 bucks coast to coast and its a tool so if anything it will damage other things and not itself LOL!.  They basically said its not the right type (rivet nut setter) so I get that and am fine with the return, just don't want to eat the shipping cost since I listed it as Buyer pays the return.  Of course we know how much that means.  Buyer has an FB count below 100 and I suspect they are new to returns, otherwise they would have just gone through the Resolution Center.

I don't get many returns and so far they've all come through the Resolution Center.

As always, I appreciate ALL the replies and support you give me ...

Mr. L

I think you are right, just wanted to bounce it off folks ...

btw ... email addresses no longer seem to appear in PayPal Transaction ... must be the ongoing effor to block off site sales.

Anyway, have messaged Buyer the following so ball is in their court so will work with them accordingly:

Hi (XXXXXX),
This message is to follow up your request for my address. eBay is getting more strict on members sharing their personal info in eBay Messaging so what makes sense is that you process a Return request in eBay's Resolution Center ... the link to that is at the bottom of the page. You will need the Item Number off the original purchased item to put in the Return Request, I have copied that for your convenience, just copy this number in to the claim form (XXXXXXXXXXXXX).
Using the Resolution Center keeps the return official with eBay, you and me. Pay special attention to the time you will be given to ship the item back. You have up to 30 days from the delivery date, which was Monday Nov. 20 to process the claim with eBay so if you are going away for Thanksgiving we can always get this done next week. Let me know if you need any other assistance.
Sincerely,

Best regards,

Return request question

Thanks for bringing this topic up because in the past I have had folks ask me as well for the return address and the way the bots are hitting these messages I would not dare send it to them here. So go to paypal ,or ask them to open a return first, and /or call ebay for the return address to be given to them.

Why? Everyone knows that's a bogus 'requirement' on here.

PayPal no longer displays a Buyer's email address and I did not see a phone number either this time around if memory serves.  That's all part of the big push to deter off site Selling but short of packages being opened and inspected by eBay, personal info can be passed on to Buyers with a simple note.  Anyway, calling eBay would be a last resort so I've messaged Buyer with instructions on how to get a claim started in the Resolution Center so I suspect I'll here back about it after Thanksgiving.

Return request question

If you click on 'See details on classic site' on a Paypal payment, email address of buyer still appears. At least they do for me anyway...

If you use Seller Hub, the buyer's email should be right there in the "Buyer username/email" column.

Return request question

It has been a mixed bag on the email showing in the usual spot on PayPal.  However, I have noticed that it is always shown in the first line of the email they send with each payment.

If it works, sell it. If it works well, sell it for more. If it doesn't work, quadruple the price and sell it as an antique.
