One nice thing about ebay over others is there is some attempt to penalize buyers who accept an offer or make an offer that is accepted and then don't pay. Frustrating as a seller deadbeats who do this. Any other sellers out there bothered 'report a buyer' can only done for standard auctions only? Most of my items are buy it now, an accepted offer doesn't end the listing. Ebay doesn't allow me to even contact the deadbeat buyitnow buyer and when they don't pay there is no recourse as ebay only allows 'report a buyer' for auctions that end not buy it now. Seems like a glitch that needs fixing.

If a buyer doesn't pay, you wait 4 days, then you can cancel the transaction based on "Buyer has't paid". They get a strike on their record, and if they get two strikes they will find themselves automatically blocked from buying/bidding on many sellers' listings. Here is the Help page about what to do if a buyer doesn't pay:

This works great on standard auctions...as I mentioned an accepted offer on a fixed buy it now auction does not work this way. Any accepted offer doesn't NOT end the auction and I Cannot report a buyer for an item that did not end. When a buy it now happens on a standard auction or best offer accepted the auction ends and there is recourse if the buyer doesn't pay...I can read and don't need help or feedback on the standard auction type report a buyer. Ebay support didn't know the answer either, hoping thay have IT that sees this and fixes the loophole.

"Any accepted offer doesn't NOT end the auction and I Cannot report a buyer for an item that did not end. "
You don't have to report a buyer. If you accept an offer the item is still for sale for others to purchase. Ebay has done away with reporting unpaid buyers on offers accepted cause there were too many of them. So your request of reporting a buyer for not paying an accepted offer is a thing of the past. Ebay support will not tell you anything. Just move on.

Thanks helpful, but it's not a thing of the past and you can still report a buyer on standard auctions by selecting a completed item somebody didn't pay for. Again this is not available on buy it now only (item doesnt technically complete), hell i can't even remind the committer to commit like a standard live bid auction type listings (literally cannot message them). I'd like to think you do get strikes if you commit and don't pay on buy it nows...and do hope this happens behind the scenes and to move on. Can't say I trust that though, clear process and only one type of listing is included. Double edge sword.

Let me ask you something. -What do you think happens to a deadbeat buyer when you CAN report them?
EDIT: And what makes you think that?

I know you can report a buyer if a buyer doesn't pay for an auction. We are talking about if you have a fixed priced listing and a buyer makes you an offer and you accept. The item doesn't sell until the buyer pays. So no transaction is made between you and the buyer. This is a new feature not a glitch. You view it as a deadbeat. Ebay views it as saving time with a non paying buyer so you have a chance to sell it to another buyer. There is no strike for transactions which weren't made. I personally as a buyer lost out on 4 offers accepted cause someone else came in and purchased the item outright. It can be disappointing both ways.

Yeah it sucks, it's Very prevalent on another selling platform others use to sell similar items I do. On that platform (Whatnot), I see often people say it's so bad over 50% of closed listings people don't pay for (no buyer penalties what so ever there). It's not about penalizing or slapping buyers hands...its about not fostering a sh*t show with no accountability which it has become for non-auction listings. 3 this week alone...Ebay this Needs fixing! Ebay does still send out payments reminders on this they confirmed...but won't let me contact the 'buyer' at all, and purposely doesn't ding deadbeats buyers, WHY?? Feebay? Might as well add Scambay to the list...penalize deadbeats (all of them) so the platform retains integrity already.

@in_game-asylum : Putting it another way: because accepting the offer now no longer takes the item off the market, it remains available for anyone else to buy it in the meantime, and thus puts some pressure on the buyer to actually make his payment before someone else does. You Snooze, You Lose.
12-16-2024 07:17 PM
Yeah and when you say snooze try 1 minute in my case to pay and no automatic payment either.

You do make a good point and looking at it as the glass half full. Also free to accept a higher offer (wished that would happen to me lol). Just frustrating and the more people can do that, the more the scammers and insinsere 'price gagers' or other scammers for another reason step on the scene. On one hand value over $250 authenticity guaranteed, 'reputable' outlet, shop here and auction bids are legally binding...on the flip side different story and for some reason a cess pool supported by ebay.

So do you not want to answer my question? (message 6^).

Well, do keep in mind that because eBay no longer takes the item off the market just because an offer has been accepted by either party (but without payment yet), then it eliminates the headache of waiting for payment with no other possibility of sale in the meantime.
By now leaving the item available for sale to others until payment actually occurs, it effectively neutralizes the problem of deadbeats making offers and then not paying for them, which in the past would take the item off the market for four full days minimum before the seller could cancel for nonpayment and then relist the item.

I think the point other posters have been trying to make is that the "report a buyer" feature is now both redundant and obsolete as the BIN buyer is automatically dinged when they don't pay within four days. You don't need to report anything, eBay is just cutting right to the chase by canceling the transaction for you and giving the deadbeat a defect.

How do you even go about setting it up so that if you accept an offer the listing stays up? That's not the case for me, but I wish it was.
Like this one for example. -The buyer managed to get this item at my minimum accepted amount (may have used multiple lowball tries before reaching it, for all I know). And with the kinds of buyers who purchase these mixed jewelry lots, typically if they don't pay within minutes after their accepted offer, they're likely to take 2, 3, maybe 4 days. -I do think I'm lucky for not getting total deadbeats very often, but the slowpokes are almost as frustrating, because the item is sitting hostage on (only) their screen all that time, when I would much rather it still be available to others to buy (and maybe even for a higher offer or my BIN price!). And OF COURSE they never write to say when they'll pay, which would make me feel like a total slimeball as a buyer.
Anyway, why do some sellers' accepted offer items remain active, while others don't? Is there some setting I can change?
