Refusing a refund

Hi eBay community. I recently listed a faulty phone on eBay and put in the description that it was faulty. It was working ok when I sent it out but when the buyer received  it said that it was unable to activate. It was activated and set up when I sold it but had other problems which I knew of that I wrote in the description. However I did say it may have other faults hence I was selling as faulty.

the buyer now wants a refund and return but I suspect the issue arised from the buyer trying to fix the issues that I listed and now they’ve come across another issue, they want a refund.

What can I do? Thanks in advance!

Which is it? Faulty or ok? Because they mean the opposite. I'm guessing you didn't do a good job of describing the faults and didn't have it in the TITLE of the listing.

Did you list it as "used "or "for parts not working"?

Refusing a refund

nothing.

If the buyer filed and Not As Described the MBG covers them.

You either required a return of the phone and then you refund OR you refund without a return.

You could scroll through the phone fine but it had a network issue. I explicitly wrote that in the description and I listed the phone as spares or repairs

Yeah, you're not going to win that.

Either refund outright and let the buyer keep the phone

or

Pay return shipping, refund the buyer upon receipt, and sell it somewhere local like craigslist

That’s not fair at all.

I believe she created a problem with the phone and now is trying to send it back.

ebay should have some sort of seller protection.

That’s not fair though.

I believe that she created the issue by tampering with the device. Why should I take the phone back after she’s tampered with it!

Because eBay will say you will. The buyer could have turned the phone inside out for all they care, eBay ALWAYS sides with the buyer.

Are you a new seller?

Suggestion - Don't sell phones, it is one of the worst, if not, THE worst thing to sell on eBay.

UK.................  perhaps the rules are different.

what kind of company would do that. I’ve been selling phones for a while now and this is the first time I’ve posted one on eBay. Anywhere else if you post it as spares or repairs then the buyer is taking a risk with the phone.

eBay need to sort themselves out

Same rules apply to INAD as in the US

OP - you need to accept the return and as advised above either send a label so they can return the item or just refund.

Read up on the MBG so next time you are aware of the issues with selling/claims on the platform, sorry this happened.

It's not for everyone. You need a thick skin to sell here and a tolerance for returns. Most of us that have been around for awhile (myself over 2 decades), have accepted this.

It is the buyers that need protection from sellers like you selling their absolute junk.

This type of selling hurts eBay's reputation for all sellers.
