So I sold an item as Brand New. It was a movie that came in a box set. I split up brand new box sets to sell off the items inside (these movies/items are never watched/touched). I had described this within the listing which is why there is no cellophane on the item itself (only the outer box that held multiple films had this wrap). So despite mentioning this within the listing, he put in a request. Clearly never read the description. eBay does not give me an option to reject the refund/return, so I guess the only option is to message the buyer and hope they cancel the request themselves? Silly if you ask me... I assume eBay will force a refund if I don't act. Should I just do a 'Partial Refund' of $0.01? 🙂

Is the question "Should I just do a 'Partial Refund' of $0.01?"
If that is the question, I would say no. I would just accept the return and refund the buyer when the item arrives back to you.
Refunding a penny would be insulting and likely result in a negative feedback. It's like tipping a penny for bad service.

All you can do is send a message to the buyer noting that the condition was noted in the description. But if they have taken, or take, the next step and filed an INAD or request a return then you will have no choice other than to refund.

Hi. Try to work something out, ask about a partial refund. Also, eBay will end of forcing a return approval. eBay always sides with the buyer. It is possible the buyer wanted the item as a gift and assumed the “brand new” condition meant a crisp, never touched item in its original packaging. Lastly, he might be a scammer, check if he made a brand new account. Hope this helps and feel free to ask more questions.

Accept a return and offer a full or partial refund. You made a mistake in your listing and got saddled with a very difficult and picky buyer who can't read. Thats just bad luck.
You misclassified the item condition. You listed the item as "BRAND NEW" which does not meet Ebay's definition even if you think it's brand new.
Brand New

Hold,
Follow the advice of Kenneth. In 19 yrs. on e-Bay, 10 in partnership with my cousin, I have sold approx. 8,000 DVDs. I made the same mistake last yr., by erroneously listing a "like new" as NEW. The buyer contacted me and I, without hesitation, apologized and offered a return at my cost; he declined and thanked me.

When you listed as Brand New, your listing contained a contradiction (" Item is in original shrink wrap") and you do not get to decide which information the buyer should believe and which information he should dismiss.
If you do not act, eBay will force a full refund and you will get a "case closed without seller resolution" which can be damaging if you get just a few.
If you try to refund $0.01, eBay will still force a full refund and you will still get a "case closed without seller resolution".

A one cent partial refund sounds a bit silly if you ask me. 🙄

If you haven't already shot yourself in the foot...
you 'could' try to convince the buyer what you explained here....but probably not...
Cheerfully accept the return, and then refund once you get the movie back......
then list it properly (condition-wise)
resist, and you will lose more money and the movie
oh (gotta add this) if you refunded me .01, not only would you get back "a" DVD, but you would get a chargeback quicker than you could say "Like New"
You look way to successful to do something like that

If it was a boxed set and you took it apart and sold items separately, it wasn't brand new.
Accept the return and pay return shipping.

Not only what @bamorris says but since the buyer will be totally ticked at your response, he'll escalate and request ebay to step in. Buyer will get full refund plus free movie! And you'll get a huge defect and likely negative feedback.

Maybe we need a new condition...never used.
That could cover a multitude of items.
