I have an issue regarding a return request.
I originally posted a rare reel to reel player on my account, I tested it, it played music well, posted it as functional "plays music good" and mentioned it had some issues. A man bought it and had it shipped to a facility in my country that shipped it to his home of Korea. Now he wants to return it since it doesn't have the original player head. I never mentioned in my listing that it had the original head, I simply said it played music, never did I mention anything about the record function.
How do I go about this return, the item is exactly as pictured, and as described in my listing. But the man wants his money back, since the original head that can record is not with it which it was never mentioned that it was.

You didn't mention that it didn't record???????
Are you kidding me??????
-------------------------------
If you want the unit back:
Accept the return.
Pay for return shipping.
When you get the item back, refund the buyer.
--------------------------------------------------
If you don't want the item back:
Refund the buyer and be done with it.

Many years ago I was in the audio equipment business..........I have owned several reel to reel tape RECORDERS.
I have never heard of any reel to reel machine that was referred to as anything other than a Tape RECORDER. A cassette "player", or an 8-track "player" but never a Reel to Reel Player.
The machine was listed as "used" which means it's fully functional which yours was not.
Accept the return!

Yes they are commonly reffered to as reel-to-reel players. I own several different types for audio recording and for playback use.

Agree 1000%.
@opaslieblingeTake the return and most likely will only be liable for return shipping from where you actually shipped it to. Who knows, the buyer may decline the return once they figure that out. YMMV
From what the OP is saying, the recording head was removed and not included. (guessing) Still will play fine but without that head, it will not record to tape.

Ebay rules you accept the return, the person most likely took the head he needed and swapped it, but you would never know since you did not take pictures of the head but even if to did you have to accept the return. You never list anything on ebay unless you are willing to lose it, sad but true.

Your listing is woefully inadequate and contradictory.
1) you did not mention there were important parts missing, and that is 100% your fault.
2) You description is contradictory - you said it plays tapes perfectly but also said it occasionally has trouble playing.
3) You listed it as "Used" which means fully functional, so arguing that you "never said anything about recording" is lying by omission.

That's like selling a car.
Mentioning that you drive it around town every day.
But forgetting to mention IT DOESN'T GO IN REVERSE!!!

You are in Germany and I am not sure the same rules apply with regards to items that go through a freight forwarder but you may be able to challenge this at least based on the US policy. Buyers loose their MBG coverage when the item goes through a freight forwarder which it sound like it did in your case. However, eBay has not been real good about standing behind that policy.
On another note it sounds as though the buyer has a legitimate issue despite the fact that they may have lost their MBG coverage. You should only be responsible for the return shipping label from the freight forwarder the buyer should cover the label from South Korea to the German freight forwarder.

The OP appears to have shipped direct to Korea, if you look at their completed listings there is a sale for the tape recorder and then 2 sales of 24 Euro that are titled as "shipping adjustment" for the same item.

This tape deck was listed on eBay Germany, but the title and description were in English. It was listed in the wrong category, for audio tapes (audiokassetten) so the item specifics for tape decks were not required.
The title says "asc as 6002 reel to reel player". The specifications for the ASC model AS 6002 are available on line, and it was clearly made as a tape recorder. Also, the controls are visible in the pictures, and you can see that there are recording controls on it. So the buyer would reasonably have expected to get a tape recorder, brand ASC, model AS 6002, which is a 2-track tape recorder.
The description says "... Rec. Level gauges are non functional. ..." which implies that everything else about the recording function was working correctly. The buyer would have expected that some repair was needed (and this was reflected in the low price) but there was no indication that an important part required for full function was missing.
You can either accept the return and pay for the return shipping (if you want the tape deck back) or you can refund the buyer's money and let them keep it, if you don't want to pay for the return shipping.

I once bought a BMW at an in-person auction.
After paying, and prancing over to it, key and title in hand to drive it home, I found out that it only went in reverse. 😂
Live and learn!

I remember reading a story about the actor Peter Falk (I think), who played Columbo. It's probably apocryphal.
Apparently, he was having trouble with the transmission in his car, which was gradually losing gears. At one point, he was driving somewhere and the last forward gear failed on him. So he drove the car home backwards. (I don't remember which side of the road he drove backwards on.)

Reel to Reel is standard parlance in the UK and most of western EU
