Race to the bottom. Profits squeezed to near nothing.

It seems no matter what I look up to sell now, prices have dropped and margins are near nothing. It just isn't worth selling most stuff anymore. Even if an item is super high quality, people want it for near nothing. I just really think I won't be buying anything anymore to sell. O.K. I vented. Best of luck to you all.

Absolutely that is part of it.  But the policies shape the expectations.  There are many factors at play.  I predict that unless some things change, small sellers will be squeezed out and then large sellers can have more control of the pricing.  Buyers will lose in the long run.  In the meantime, they are having fun.  With the age old advice to buy low and sell high, now is the time to buy if you have the money to do so.  I don't.  Boohoo.

Another layer is the collectibles market.  It has seen better days.  That's not a policy issue.  That's just the ebb and flow of consumer habits.

ebay definitely is causing that price competition by grouping identical items together in listings. Unless you have the lowest price, ebay will tell your buyers to buy from someone else. I now pay for a store subscription so ebay can promote everyone's products but mine. Lower your price, your competitors will follow suit.

I totally get what you're saying about estate sales, I'm done with them at this point. They show all these amazing pictures days before they launch the sale, then when you arrive there's nothing there but old books and used clothes, a waste of time. No doubt they're cherry picked to death.

I'm still getting some luck with the antique malls and thrift stores though.

And you're right about selling in lots. Its better to sell in smaller lots, they bring faster sales. Its much easier for me to afford a $100 lot than a $500 one.

I can't tell you the amount of items I've donated in the last 2 months because they are no longer profitable to sell due to the race to the bottom. To counter that - I've done a lot of research and watch a lot of videos of what is selling that is still profitable. It's just  not worth it to make less than a $10 profit on an item and I'd prefer $20 - so you sometimes have to do a bit of work and find out what is selling.

Also what may sell for little money on this site - sells for more on others and vice versa.

I just gave a giant bag of clothes I was trying to sell to one of those clothes bins. I figure in total all the time of relisting I spent isn't worth the bare amount of money I would have made. My next goal is to go through all the boxes I have with sale items and things I've relisted for 2-3 years are all going to our local thrift store. I'm done in June on here. Dimension pricing is coming and it is too complicated for a $2 profit anymore.

This is just another totally destructive, ridiculous symptom of the GTC change over in my opinion.

The sellers who lost their BEST SELLING TOOLS?  Who were used to getting FAST CONSISTENT SALES??  Are now ALL racing to the bottom on price in an attempt to make up for all the SALES THEY HAVE LOST, and just to get back to ANY INCOME NOW AT ALL...

When you go from making CONSISTENT DAILY, WEEKLY SALES AND HAVE A STEADY INCOME COMING IN?  When that is taken AWAY FROM YOU?  You SCRAMBLE TO DO ANYTHING YOU CAN TO GET BACK TO ANY KIND OF NORMALCY.

The race to the bottom here is a direct result of SALES GRINDING TO A HAULT thanks to GTC...

Absolutely BRILLIANT MOVE eBay..I know were ALL REALLY THANKING YOU FOR THIS ONE!!!

The only saving grace I see is that these MORONS are going to take themselves out right along with everyone else...And it will completely serve them right

Super High Quality items if that's what you have should sell in my opinion !! It's the amount you want/need to make on those items that can prevent sales. I know you want to make as much as possible but how much is that ??? 100% , 75% or are willing to be satisfied with 25 to 35 % purchase to sell margin ?? Now as far as Stuff as you call it !! I see stuff listed all over ebay !! And I don't know what Stuff you have but if it's just Stuff I wouldn't purchase it to begin with !! Focus on more and different High Quality Items and Less Stuff and Don't Try to be a Millionaire on your Quality Items and you might do better overall !! My Opinion / Good Luck

My problem is I love the thrill of the hunt but have probably donated over 20 bags of clothing and hard goods within just the past few months. Everything is very nice quality and doesn't last at the thrift stores as it's scooped up. I have 25 NWT sweaters and 25 NWT pants I have on Facebook Marketplace. I could sell NWT items quicker than I could list them - but not any longer and I refuse to do it for a $5 profit.

I can collect early SS in July but would love to hold out until my DH retires in 2021 - not sure I'll be able to hold off tho with the way things are going on Ebay and why I don't think it's profitable to upgrade my store due to the GTC debacle.

I'm not aware of Dimension pricing - can someone tell me what that is?

There are more sellers than buyers for everything but a select few items. As soon as you put something on eBay where people can look it up, the hoards of flippers find it, because most things are not rare, and it is quickly worthless as the small demand is filled. So many things I sold a couple years ago for $100-$200 that are now worthless.

Its also a poker game getting sellers to budge on their game and movie lots. many will try and charge full retail and want hundreds, they can just forget it. Often times lots will sit there for sale for months before a seller budges on the price, then I have to move quickly to get them before someone else does.

I thought DVDs are no longer worth anything, not sure about games. I used to sell DVDs in lots by genre but sales dwindled to nothing.

Executioner - I have far better uses for my time than to waste it searching out things to sell all day, in an ever changing marketplace. For me (I know it is all individual and dependent on one's income requirements) it is not worth it. Plain and clear. I will try not to complain anymore, as selling here is a choice. Doesn't make it any less painful though to try to dispose of remaining inventory.

Use other venues. Some work better for certain things. I use a big one where you sell locally face to face in cash with no fees. End up with way more money.

(Oops, posted a blank page when the phone rang, sorry!)

Was just going to say times change. Buying habits change. Ebay policies change. Not everything is suitable to sell here. Sellers are challenged on all these fronts plus more. Some will adapt, some won’t, others can’t.

You are so right! Although I cannot afford to lose more money! I have been trying to figure out how to stay competitive and not lose my shirt on feebay! I think I'm losing the battle though.

Today I found a listing where the lady was using my pictures and description. It's dog eat dog on here! And nothing is sacred!

Same in my category - vintage clothing.  Used to be VERY easy to find, now nada.

I’m selling stock I was too stubborn to get rid of when I stopped selling for about 5 years.
