REGARDING PROMOTION OF AN ITEM

Hi guys. So I have a question. I have never done a promoting and I hope to do one just to get the experience. I was trying to understand the procedure but don't get it. First when I was about to promote it shows a percentage of 6.8% as in a kind of a recommendation.

1. Does this 6.8% calculates from the item price + shipping price x 6.8%?

2. Can I reduce it to like 3%?

3. If number 2 - Yes, what's the difference of the percentage which affects the promotion? how does the promotion vary? I don't understand the exact concept behind this.

Much appreciated if someone could help.

REGARDING PROMOTION OF AN ITEM

1.) It is taken on the entire payment.

2.) The lowest is 2% , which is where I put all my PLs.

3.) The percentage is pulled out of eBay's...hat.  In theory the more you pay the more exposure you get.

Two things:

  •  I have noticed that while having PL does lead to more Views of the PL item, it does not necessarily lead to more Sales. However, when I use PL, I do get more Sales, just not necessarily of the Promoted items.
  • A Canadian seller is experimenting with PL vs discounts. On some long tail listings he is  using a 10%* PL,  on others he is using a 10**% discount.  The effect on his bottom line is the same should the item sell. He doesn't have enough data to develop a theory, but so far the PL seems to be giving better results.

Note that the experiment is on collectibles, so no two listings will be exactly alike.

The basic question being asked is: does the customer buy the lowest price or the first item seen?

@shashedevind0

Hello

I believe if you want to purchase promoted listings you have to sell a few items before even being considered.  Given what you are selling, I would hold off on the PL for now.  Just try to get some successful sales under your belt and then maybe on down the road,  consider using them for some of your items.  Personally, I wouldn't use PL on items that are inexpensive.  Especially because you've got lots of competition in your venue with selling teas and spices.  If you have something that's a bit more in value then ok.  Go for it.

Have a great day.

PS I'm not a mate. lol. I'm a friend. 😄

REGARDING PROMOTION OF AN ITEM

Hi, Shashendevind0!

I'm a buyer, not a seller, so useless to help you on that point regarding Promoted Listings.

I am chiming in to tell you the two previous posters gave you some great advice. I'm glad to see you're still on the right path!

I second using 2% or maybe 2.1%. Ignore the eBay recommended percentage.
