Quick Q About eBay Generated Return Labels

I seem to recall reading here in the forums a while back something indicating that return labels, regardless of package weight or original shipping method always go First Class.

For those of you who have had to issue such on something weighing more than a pound, can you tell me if you were billed for a First Class label or for the full weight?  Got a sale I am going to refund on, but I need to know first if this would be billed for FC (despite being about 4 pounds) or will it be at a 4 pound package rate?

Reason this is important to know before deciding how to proceed is that if it is the former, I would have no qualms about requesting a return before refund so I can try to troubleshoot the item myself and see if I can fix it.  But if it is the full rate, I will just refund without requiring a return, due to an unwillingness to take the gamble that I can fix it and make it sellable again and turn a profit.

If it works, sell it. If it works well, sell it for more. If it doesn't work, quadruple the price and sell it as an antique.

Quick Q About eBay Generated Return Labels

Ducky,  I have never heard that all labels, regardless of size, get a FCP return label. Maybe someone else can chime in here but that would be totally illogical.  I think the return label is the exact method and/or weight that the initial label was.

Am I wrong here?  Anyone?

Happy 2018! May this upcoming year be a prosperous one!

Quick Q About eBay Generated Return Labels

Billed for the amount it took to ship the item there originally. Ebay would never pick up the extra cost of a 4 lb item going first class which is not allowed to ship that way to begin with.

Example:

If you are charged with a "as described item and you charged the customer $7.35 but it cost you $6.25 for postage you will be charged another $6.25 and also have to return the original $7.35. Most of the time it just pays to reimburse their money and let them keep the item if it was not expensive. Just make sure to reimburse buyer immediately before bothering with having them return the item.

Quick Q About eBay Generated Return Labels

Thanks, all.  Item price was $24.95, I paid $10.19 to ship.  Not sure if I am confident in my troubleshooting skills to risk that amount.  Item was this:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/132263323027?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1559.l2649

Buyer is stating that the dial tone is very very weak (at first there was no dialtone, then after hours of charging got the faint tone).

It charged overnight and is still super faint.  Is it likely that the battery is just kaput?  It first entered my inventory almost 2 years ago, and tested fine then, but it had then been sitting unpowered since then.  Would that long a time without being charged be able to kill a battery parmantntly?  If so, then I may be able to get it working again and resell for a higher price even.  But if that is not likely, then it is refund without return.

If it works, sell it. If it works well, sell it for more. If it doesn't work, quadruple the price and sell it as an antique.

Here's my concern. They talk about returns and also insurance on the return. But the labels are as cheap as you can get, so I'm not sure about the policy in the long run.

You be charged no more then the original shipping amount.

http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/return-item.html#shipping-charges

Return shipping charges when using eBay shipping labels:

Anytime you use an eBay return shipping label, returns are shipped by either USPS First-Class or Priority Mail, depending on the item's cost, package weight, and delivery time.

In some instances, return shipping charges may not be based on the actual weight of the package, but are an estimate. These charges are based on rates eBay negotiated with the USPS and are typically less than what you would pay at the post office for the same item. If you've used an eBay generated label for the outbound shipping, the cost of the return shipping label will never exceed this amount.

BTW, Clarity are good phones for the hearing inpaired. Are you sure the buyer has the volume turned up on the amp?

Oh, I think we both overlooked Boost when we were trying to troubleshoot via messaging.  I'll have her try that before deciding on the return or just refund Q (actually leaning toward taking the gamble and having it returned if this doesn't work.  It is looking like I had it way underpriced anyway and could probably break even just listing the charging cradle by itself.  Will post a follow up later.

That's what I was thinking. I hope it works.
