Today I sold an item, after the sale the buyer contacted me with his phone number, and asked for my paypal email so we can talk payment. I went ahead and canceled the sale, and I picked "issue with buyers address" as a reason seeing there were none that said "scammer". After that I relisted the item.
Long story short, is there anything else I need to do? Was there something else I shouldve done? I just want to make sure there are no issues on my end going forward with this item.
P.S. They never sent payment, no refund was needed, he wanted to pay through PayPal. I just dont like how under my monthly sales $ ebay counts this canceled order as being sold.

You handled it well. Anytime a buyer wants your PayPal info or phone number it 99.9% the lead in to a scam.
You can report the buyer from this link
https://spd.ebay.com/RBASellerHub
If that one doesn't work just go to Help and type in "report a buyer", the link will come right up for you.
Please take the time to do so, these people will be running dozens of scams at the same time so the sooner they get kicked off the better. Unfortunately they will be right back using different stolen personal information to open a new account....it's whack-a-mole!
FYI - If you receive any fake message from buyers or PayPal etc. forward them to spoof@ebay.com

It was a scam.
You did well.
You could report the buyer. If there are any consequences, you should contact eBay.

Yes, even though you canceled the order, it still counts as a sold item.
Be sure to add the ID to your blocked buyers list.

Thank you for the input, Ive been on ebay for years but have only sold a handful of items. Didnt know I could report the user either, I looked for it but couldnt find it. Appreciate it, I will have to look a little harder!

Thanks for your help! Appreciate the input, I will certainly block them. I hope this isnt common practice, its pretty easy to deal with, but still nonsense people have to do this **bleep**

he wanted to pay through PayPal.

No, this person had no intention of paying. Basically, it is your run of the mill "text me" scammer crook that has no intention of paying you at all. If you actually contact them off the eBay platform, they know they have a "live one" on the line and will proceed to ask you to enclose a prepaid gift card in the order, too for their mother (grandmother, sister, uncle) as a gift for mother's day (graduation, first communion, birthday). They want your email address to send you a fake payment notification saying you are paid.
If you actually accepted formal offer or they were the winning bidder on an auction, you can report them onsite for trying to take the sale off eBay. You can also, on day 5 cancel the sale for non-payment and award the ID the non-paying bidder strike.

I did have it listed as "or best offer" , I counter offered his first offer and he just accepted it. After that is when he sent me the scam crap, and I just canceled it. I knew right away it was a scam, I was more worried that I missed something on my end. Thats all I did was cancel it, and relist it...seemed pretty easy, so I wanted to check with people who sell a bunch on here.
Appreciate your response, thank you for your input!

Actually there is no cancel option for "crooked text me scammer". If you used "problem with the buyer's address" it is probably ok so long as you don't make a habit of this. We all know the person is NOT going to pay, but the proper way would be to report the buyer, and cancel when the option appears to "cancel for non-payment" on day 5.
Glad you did not fall for this!
