Question from buyer but no offer allowed

Anybody know why some questions from buyers to sellers allow the seller to respond to the question with an offer and sometimes not?

Question from buyer but no offer allowed

I didn't think you could.

As I understand it if a buyer messages an offer (unsolicited) you need to get them to make that offer so you can accept it.

If a buyer uses Make an Offer (that is listed Best Offer) you can accept it from there.

I think LOL

Question from buyer but no offer allowed

I have noticed this as well recently. I don't really have many items listed in the fashion that allows offers. But I have noticed a few times when someone just sends me a message and asks if I will take a lower price, it doesn't give me the option to "reply with an offer".

I end up telling them to let me know when they are certain they will be around computer/phone for at least 15 minutes, and I will go in and drop the price.

I ask that now, because I did drop the price on an item that had been listed for 6 months, down to the agreed amount, only by about $10. The customer ended up taking a phone call, and 15 minutes later someone bought it. Potential customer wasn't happy.

I'm hoping it is just a glitch.

Ebay turns on the "make an offer" feature to a limited amount of inquiries every month. It's their way of giving the seller a taste of the "Best Offer" feature & to possibly help the seller get a random sale from a general inquiry.

Question from buyer but no offer allowed

I get quite a few messages every day. Mondays after being gone for the weekend I usually have 20 or more. And mixed into all of those messages, its quite random when it asks if I want to reply with an offer.

The "Reply with offer" option only appears on the first message from your buyer, but not on subsequent messages.

If you go back to the very first message, you'll still be able to click that button.

Question from buyer but no offer allowed

I have no idea why that would be...

But a tip for those sellers who are getting tired of buyers accepting offers and taking days to pay....

If a buyer sends you a message asking "would you take $xx" and you are willing to take that price..

Here's what I do now.  I don't reply with offer.  I go into my listing and edit the price to what they offered me, and then I reply with "thank you for your offer, I changed the price on the listing for you"...

Because then they buy it now like any other listing  and you can still have immediate payment required 🙂 🙂

I had to start doing that because someone offered me $24 for a VS Pink shirt.  I replied with offer for $24.  Just seconds later I get the alert that it sold... and all day long, no payment.  I send them a message that night, just saying, I accepted your offer, please pay.... no response... so the next day, I just cancelled the order, cuz I was like, why are you even contacting me to negotiate a lower price, when you can't even pay that amount.. and in the relist, I put a note, that it was a relist, and to please, if you make or accept an offer to pay at the time of accepting the offer.

I also blocked that person... low and behold, an almost identical user ID sends me a message about the relist, it was obviously the same person, and this time, they offered me $22.... after not paying the $24 they offered the day before.  LIke, really?  Now you offer me even less, when you probably don't have that either?  I wrote back and I said, sorry, no, this sounds exactly like the last person that made an offer without the money to back it up." and blocked them to... no response...

I just knew, this shirt is going to haunt me on here, and I have zero patience and interest in this person asking me one more question about the shirt... so I ended the listing and gave it to my sister to sell on the site she sells on lol.

It just really irks me when someone contacts ME first to negotiate and then don't even pay right away.  I'm sorry, but I would NEVER make an offer or reach out to a seller about an item, unless I had to the money to pay them as soon as they said yes.

That makes sense. I will have to keep an eye on that.
