Just getting back into selling on eBay. Anyone ever have someone ask them to pause a item for 3 weeks and say they will pay more if they pause it for 3 weeks? Cannot see how I could get scammed. If I pause it and they don’t buy I can just re list it after that. Is this something anyone has dealt with?

You are under no obligation to hold an item for someone. If they pay for it, then you ship it to them.
If they want it to be held for 3 weeks then they just have to hope that it's still available by then. I never "hold" items for people even though they have asked me to do so.

I doubt this "buyer" will purchase your item in three weeks. To me this sound's like someone who has an item like yours already listed or one he'll be listing soon and this request to place yours on hold is simply nothing more than an attempt to remove the competition in the hope it'll help his sell quicker and/or for more money.

The scam is that they are selling the same item, and are tricking you into removing their competition 🙂

@Anonymous Incorrect use of the word scam but I understand why you used it. You are not obligated to hold an item for anyone. If you do choose to hold it, you are correct in that if they end up not purchasing after all, you simply relist it.
I have done this in the past as I also sell collectible dolls. I've had several requests to hold a specific doll or outfit because it was semi rare and the person really wanted it, but they were short on funds at the moment. Every single time the person did come back and purchase. Plus, they were so grateful that they ended up purchasing even more items from me. Only once did the person renege, but they wrote and told me they still didn't have the funds so I should relist it. I didn't mind doing this and haven't received such a request in a long time. Best of luck to you....

Scammed? I cannot see how you could get paid. I mean, seriously, why would you do that? A total stranger asks you to stop selling, so you do? I would not have even responded to a request like that. I'd quietly add them to my Blocked Buyer List (here) and move on.

@Anonymous
Hello-
You are not running a lay-away plan. Even in a lay away you have to put something down.
You're a seller and you need to be paid. Do not end the listing. If the buyer can't pay for it they shouldn't be bidding on it. This is a business and you are here to make money, not chase it. Tell them no and if I were you, I'd block them from further issues. Other great advice here too. Make your money.

I have found that whenever any potential customer asks anything strange at all you should just add them to your block list.
Years of experience have shown me that customers who send any message at all are more likely to be trouble than those who don't, and if that message is in any way strange then the odds of them causing you to waste time or money goes way, way up.
Customers that can't afford to buy the item right now can't really afford to buy the item at all, particularly with the sort of Luxury man-child collectables that you and I both sell. They either won't have the money when the time comes or will have a much higher chance of pulling something strange once they have the item. It it is any of the Ninja Turtle items then you can re-double that chance.

Thank you all for the responses I can see everyone’s points. I try to answer all questions no matter how strange because it could be a serious buyer and I want to continue my good feed back. I have several people asking what other items I have so they can try to buy them before they list. I have gotten to where if I have an item they want I just list it and tell them if they are interested it is now live. Not sure I’ve found any one persons to strange to block which I would have to figure out how first. This person wanting my item seems sincere about wanting the item and is willing to pay more for it if I wait. Funny thing is the item has already resisted a couple times so it is not a new listing. I will look and see if any item like mine is listed. when I listed it there were none like it. Thank you all for the advice this is a good forum to ask questions glad I found it.

Here is where you block people.
https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/BuyerBlock?
My suggestion is to block these people
People who ask weird questions.
People who ask A LOT of questions.
Anyone who asks about smoke smell (even if you don't smoke and the item is new).
Anyone who ever opens a claim or return.
Anyone overly concerned about the condition of a nearly worthless item.
Anyone leaving neutral or negative feedback.
Anyone whose "feedback left" you look at that has a history of leaving bad feedback.
I tend to look at feedback left when people send me questions, it can be very illuminating as to the kind of customer they are.

Perfect. That way, if they ghost you later, someone else may decide to buy it instead. Be sure to set the Immediate Payment Required checkbox so that no one can snatch your item off the market without actually paying you for it first.

If you do reply to them, you can assure them that if the item is still listed when they're ready to buy it, it's theirs. 😉
