Hi,
I bought a 1992 magazine listed in "good" condition. When it arrived, I was surprised to see that the cover is 50% detached from the spine. Futhermore, the back bottom edge has many small tears and holes, and the front cover also has some small tears along the edge. I contacted the seller about it, and he is insisting that since the rest of the magazine is fine, that the exact condition of the cover he sent is irrelevant. According to the "good" condition for books (the category magazines fall under), "Very minimal damage to the cover including scuff marks, but no holes or tears." The photos of the magazine in the listing were inaccurate, and he didn't have any other further description. Am I right in saying that the magazine is in fact not in "good" condition and the item is not as described, or am I overreacting?
Thanks for your help!

What did you pay for the magazine and what were you intending on doing with it?

Yes, you are correct about the condition. I would say the magazine is in "acceptable" condition.
It sounds as if the seller left out details about the condition of the magazine. What you choose to do next is your choice.

What did the pictures of the magazine show?
Were these defects mentioned in the description?
If not, then imo the magazine was not as described.

No, it's not in good condition. The spine being partially detached would automatically bring it down, not to mention the other issues. Open a not as described complaint. The seller will be required to pay the return shipping. (assuming he's in the US) No more conversing with the seller.

Good is really a misnomer, but one that is still readable with numerous defects.

- All the defects of a VG comic with more significant wear.
- The inside paper quality might not be good and pieces of the pages may be missing.
- Books in this grade are almost always creased, scuffed, abraded and soiled, but readable.
- Large pieces can be missing from the cover.
- Long or many spine splits are possible.
- The cover and pages many be detached but not missing and is still in a "collectible" grade.
- A significant amount of tape may have been applied to cover and pages.
- Book may be fragile.
That doesn't sound good to me but I don't do comics.

southern that description is used to grade all pulp publications. Buyer got item in far better condition than good grade, but without knowing the cost and what is was purchased for hard to give advice as what to do next. I suspect purchased for a article and now read and copied has no need for magazine and looking for advice as to what to do to get the seller to abandon the sale....

I sell a lot of Reders Digest the lure isn't the digest I use the date so it can be used as a birthday gift for someone to give as a gift for the birthday person to see what was going on during the month and year they were born...

Part of the Condition selection in Books states: See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections.
Did the seller's description etc. elaborate on the condition of the magazine?
As a seller of magazines I really wish eBay would take them totally out of Books and give them their own category with Conditions that better fit magazines (magazines don't have hard covers, magazines don't have dust jackets, etc). It also would make it easier to control the Media Mail abuse in Magazine Back Issues.
How was your magazine mailed? Is it possible it might have gotten some of the damage in shipping? I know covers can come loose in shipping if the magazine isn't well packed to keep it tight during shipping.

Yes, yes, 1000x yes! I don't sell too many magazines, but I do get tired of repeating "No, I can't ship that Garden & Gun lot for $4"

I paid $7.85 for the magazine and $5.15 shipping. I realize that's not very much, but the next grade up was somewhere around $40, and the condition stated for "good" sounded, well, good to me. I was planning on collecting it.
