Puerto Rico

I have an order for a shipment to Puerto Rico.  It looks like a PO Box.  Can I cancel it right away or will I be penalized?

@narog-32 : Good grief, why would you do that? Shipping to a PO Box is about the most secure delivery location of all.

To answer your question: Yes, you would be penalized for cancelling with no good reason, and probably earn a Neg from the buyer as well.

Why should the order be cancelled?

Re: Puerto Rico

Why do you want to cancel it?

If you're using USPS a shipment to PR is the same as any other domestic US shipment.

Re: Puerto Rico

I couldn't recommend cancelling an order just because your buyer is in Puerto Rico, but that's just me...

Re: Puerto Rico

Yes Nancy you will be penalized, and receive appropriate negative feedback as well, because you have no legitimate reason for canceling a paid transaction. Best of luck to you....

Puerto Rico is part of the USA.   If you cancel order customer will be **bleep** off and leave you negative feedback.

@narog-32

I don't see any recent sales that couldn't ship quite happily to a PO Box in PR.

Re: Puerto Rico

What do you have against your fellow U.S. citizens, Puerto Ricans?   What do you have against PO boxes?   What do you have against Puerto Ricans who use PO boxes?  Bizarre.

And, yes, you will certainly take a defect for cancelling the sale, since you have no reason to do so except some sort of personal prejudice.

Re: Puerto Rico

In the future you can exclude Alaska, Hawaii and US Protectorates from your listings but if you did not, you don't have a good reason to cancel.  My listings all include the following: "In all cases we will need your eBay account address to contain a  physical street address.  That can be in addition to a Post Office Box.  If you purchase without a street address we may need to cancel the order then have you repurchase after you change your address with eBay.  The quoted shipping price is for the Continental US only. For Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico or protectorates contact us to determine if an additional charge will be needed BEFORE you complete the purchase."

Yes, you'll get penalized.

Re: Puerto Rico

Post Office boxes are the safest addresses you can ship to, since the owner needs a key to open the box or if the shipment is too large to fit, has to present ID at the USPS counter.

Puerto Rico is served by the USPS and is part of the United States, although not an actual state.

Re: Puerto Rico

Many of the citizens in Puerto Rico are still recovering from the effects of several recent hurricanes, and depend upon postal deliveries made to post office boxes, since delivery to a street address may still be largely impossible.

Re: Puerto Rico

A PO Box in Puerto Rico is preferred for shipping.  They use an urbanization form of street address that is complicated and can be problematic.
