Promoted Listings: Does it work well for you? How did you decide which items to promote?

I honestly have no idea if it works, and I doubt anyone else does. Just not even stats to go off of. People will say " well, I've had $3000 in sales this month from promotoed listings out of $10,000 sales. That means it works!". But they never mention if they have $3000 EXTRA sales. But no one has the guts to test it, by going a couple months with no promotions, a couple months with promotions, then couple months without. To see if there actually is a difference. I think it might increase sales an extra 5% overall, if all your listings are promoted. Quesiton is, how much more are you paying to have your listings promoted.

I'm running my test during Sept. to see what takes place so far it looks like the only benefit is promoted listings override other like items when indexed by best match...

I only promote items I want to get rid of and I only do 1%. I will never apply trending rates as that's way too much to shell out for me personally as I try to keep my BIN prices as low as possible to begin with. I find using promoted listings is hit or miss but in general, I make more sales without it. Hope that helps!

If you want less for your item it works great.

I'm trying it on a few of my higher priced items  just out of sheer curiosity . It's too early to detect if it works  or not . However when I first noticed this offer on my listing  page ,,'' pay this amount %  upon sale  and we will promote  your item '' I was thinking  what are our seller fee's for ?  Kind of reminds me when they first came out with cable TV. Pay this much every month and no more nagging commercials ! So we began paying a cable fee every month and then little by little the nagging commercials  all came back on top of it . Tulips

It dose not work. e bay should promote for free. They are killing them selfs. By trying to get the seller to promote. Your item will not sell any faster. You will loose money in the long run. This is just anther way to try to get a seller to pay for something e bay should be doing. The do 0 for your fees but just put your item for sell on the site.  And nice customer service that most time can do 0 to solve the issue. E bay needs to stop trying to pump more mononey from the seller for no good things.  And just give the seller somthing for the high fees we pay. Like photos/ titles in large results. Should also be free it cost e bay 0 but hey charge for it. They will wake up one day realize it helps them also. to promote some item for free. Like items that sell well. E bay just is very greedy in my opinion. The promotions are just another way to trick sellers out of profits in my opinion.

While I'm in no way an ebay fanboi, to claim they do nothing for you, is absurd. Go ahead and start your own website and list your things, and see how long it takes to sell. I get a lot of sales because ebay is a platform that a lot of buyers go to .

I use it on items that aren't getting much attention, are low in search placement, or have been sitting in my inventory for a while.
