We have a business store on ebay and were just looking at whether we should start deducting the ad rate that we pay from promoted listings when we process the orders in our system so we get a better picture on item profit. While looking at one just now, I noticed that ebay calculated the ad rate on the total INCLUDING the sales tax that they collected, not the product total. This item had free shipping so I can only assume that ebay is also calculating that on the shipping charge as well.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Yes they do. They add shipping cost and taxes and that is how they calculate what they charge. This is the 4th thread about this exact topic. Cheers

They made this change last July 1 I believe, so about 16 months ago. I guess you missed the memo.

I searched for it but didn't see anything on it, I guess I need to look again. It's **bleep** that they do that

Wow, snarky much? We hadn't been doing promoted listings at that time so it is new for us and IF, i read it, I don't recall it. **bleep** that they charge a fee on sales tax and shipping. We aren't making money on those things
Have a great day!

I had a buyer purchase 28 items Saturday...very rare...not every thing was promoted...just the high end items which were highly promoted. I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw the negative balance in "available funds" from items that were promoted in this big sale. eBay gets their promoted fees before the funds are available to sellers. Lucky I only promote expensive items.
