Promoted Listing.. Bug ? Technical Issue? Temporary Problem?

To be honest, I'm desperate

Since the first of November something happened in the "Promoted Listing feature"

From an average of 200 clicks per day I went down to 0-1 and that's how it has been for 20 days now.

I would be happy if someone knows a little more about why this is happening and can give me an answer if there is a solution

Ebay know about this issue?

I also know it has nothing to do with whether you are a dropshipper or not because I know sellers who are not dropshippers who suffer from the same problem, so please without messages accusing about it.

I will be happy to answer, thank you in advance for the answers.

Promoted Listing.. Bug ? Technical Issue? Temporary Problem?

Don't know the answer for sure, but see if this reasoning makes any sense to you.

  • eBay probably started the Promoted Listings feature so they could make more $$
  • eBay doesn't collect any $$ from Promoted Listings if they don't sell
  • Every time a Promoted Listing shows up on a page, it is occupying "real estate" on the listing page INSTEAD of a different Promoted Listing from another seller who uses PLs
  • If eBay's goal is to make more money, they likely show the Promoted Listings most likely to sell, OR listings that sell and create more profit (higher priced items or seller chooses higher % to give to eBay)
  • eBay doesn't know if your items will sell in a PL until they try showing your listing and find out if it gets clicks and sales.
  • Seems reasonable that the large number of clicks you were getting, might have come from this eBay "test" of your listing. When your use of that "real estate" on the listing page didn't produce as much $$ for eBay as other peoples listings did, they made the business choice to go where the $$ was

Might be way off base on this. I had a dramatic drop also, but not as drastic as the examples in the screenshots. If the above is fairly correct, the course of action would be to remove Promoted Listings from listings that get a lot of clicks, but few sales.

Eager to hear other opinions
