Problems with a buyer

At the end of one of my auctions, I sent the buyer an invoice. Ebay policy states that payment is due within two days after auction. After two days had passed since the end of the auction, I still had not received payment so I sent buyer another invoice.  After four days had passed, I still had not received payment from the buyer so I opened a non-payment case. This got an immediate response from buyer.  He said “Was it really necessary to open a case so quickly, just because I haven't been able to get online the past few days?” I replied “It's been 4 days since the end of the auction. Ebay policy states payment is due within 2 days after the auction. I've had a problem with non payers lately, so yes it was necessary.”

The next day I sent the buyers item via USPS. The same day, before the buyer even received the item, he left me negative feedback and left me this threatening message “You just scored your first negative review by being a dick. 😉 Congrats. And the item had better be in perfect condition when I receive it or you'll have a lot more. Might remove it if you sent me a revision request, if the item is in top condition and you asked nicely.” I reported the buyer over this issue but my negative feedback still stands. Is my only recourse to request feedback revision?  I don’t want to have to kiss his @ss in order to get it removed.

Problems with a buyer

Just ignore and block. The one neg will not hurt your sales.  Responding in any way further just plays into the buyer's hand.  And by the way, I usually wait 7 days before initiating a non-payment case.

Ebay does not require that payment be made in 2 days.  That is just the minimum amount of time in which you can file non pay.

Yes, it is true that many are not on the computer 24/7.  Maybe you could have given him a bit more time to pay.

In the future, you may want to list as immediate payment required.

I doubt ebay will remove the negative as he did not say anything in it to warrant it.  Ebay will say it is his opinion.

You can send him a revision and hope he will be more pleasant.  Or you can follow up with a professional response.

First off, there is no 2 day payment rule. The unpaid item claim can only be opened after 2 days and it seems this causes some confusion.

Secondly, I would never ever send an invoice unless it’s to combine shipping. Two reasons for that. One, eBay already sends an invoice AND a second reminder. So your sending more invoices looks like badgering to the buyer.

Then there’s the shipping charge, If you use calculated shipping, sending an invoice locks you in to the charge to ship to the buyer’s registered address. If they change the shipping address at checkout to another address in a further zone, the shipping charge won’t reflect that.

I use the auto assist feature to automatically open and close unpaid item cases after 4 days. That way I don’t have to keep up with it and it covers weekends where the buyer might be out of pocket.

Oh but there is a 2 day policy. I knew it was buried in their polices somewhere: "Once you've bought an item, it's important to pay as quickly as possible – you'll need to pay within 2 days of winning the auction or buying the item.
If you don't pay within that time, the seller may open an unpaid item case against you."
