If I simply choose Standard Envelope for a qualifying item as I print a shipping label, will it provide me with a default label that will be suitable by simply trimming it to a correct size to fit my selected envelope? I hear a lot about saving to PDF, adjusting with photo editors and/or special label printers and reducing the size, etc., but I just want to print it quickly with may 8 1/2 x 11 printer, trim and tape on the envelope. I've not seen this discussed yet.

What size are your labels? What size are your envelopes?
If you haven't already read up on this, you need to:

Yes, the site says "Print your label from eBay Labels and attach it to your envelope then send via USPS." That's not too helpful. Am I to assume it will print out to fit a 3 1/2 x 6 3/8" envelope?

No, you are not to assume that. You are to assume that ebay figures you are capable of making any modifications necessary to ensure your label fits properly. You need to ensure your label will fit your envelope. I believe if you read the entire page, you will also find that the recipient's address must be parallel with the longest side of the envelope.
I'll ask again: what size are your labels?

I don't buy labels, just use 8 1/2 x 11 paper.

So, normally when you print out the label, you use the entire sheet? The label basically fills the sheet?

No, the label prints about 3 5/8 x 5 1/4" excluding border space, while the receipt occupies the other half of the page. This is of course not a standard envelope label, which I have not attempted yet, but the normal shipping label.

So, with the border, it's basically a standard 4" x 6" label? And, I'm guessing , the address is parallel with the shorter side? So, 4" is the top and bottom, 6" the sides?

Oh, also, do you actually need the receipt? If not, there is a way to prevent that from printing, which would save you ink.

The label will print small enough for you to cut it out and have it fit on a standard size envelope. I'm not sure why other people answering can't just tell you that. It comes out about half a page but the bottom half is empty space so you can cut it off, so the important stuff is about three inches high.

Keep in mind, the address on the label MUST be parallel with the long side of the envelope. Since I use a 4x6 Zebra printer, my questions are designed to understand what you are using, since you did not indicate that in your first post.
You might have to change the orientation on your label to ensure the address is parallel. I'm not sure because I don't know what your current orientation setting is, and I'm not sure how your label actually prints out.
My apologies for asking so many questions.
I'll let fenryswulf take over

My labels print by default at the standard 4x6". Sometimes I have a smaller package or target area for the label so I simply shrink it down in my browser print options. Since you're using paper (and won't waste labels) try 80%, then try 70% etc... see what works.

Yes, my labels print in the orientation you described: basically 4x6, address parallel to the shorter side, 4" the top and botton with 6" the sides. And I do use the receipt.

Thanks fenryswulf, I'll give it a try on my next postcard sale.
