Possible scam?

I got a message this morning from a buyer saying they returned shoes to me on 4/17 and still haven’t gotten a refund.

i have no prior messages from this buyer and there was never a return opened.

I have gotten shoes back without a return in the past and I always message the buyer to get a return opened and then I refund immediately.   I set the shoes aside until this is completed.  I have no message to the buyer and these shoes are not in my possession anywhere.

She says she has tracking so I have asked to see it and am waiting for a response.

She mentioned not opening a case until I’ve responded so I see where this is headed.

Has anyone had something like this?  Will PayPal side with her (I’m guessing yes)

It seems weird to me that someone returned shoes 3 months ago and never uttered a peep until now.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Possible scam?

Seems odd for sure but if it was three months ago there should not be anything to worry about.  Best regards

@banana*shoe*boutique, it's possible that the person has you confused with another seller.  Don't do anything more until he/she sends you the tracking information.

It's also possible that he/she will present you with tracking information that shows the shoes were sent back to a location within your zipcode (but not your address).  There have been reports of several sellers who have experienced this.    That is a scam, as apparently PayPal only requires proof of delivery via zip code - not actual address, but let's not jump to any conclusions yet.

Also, what was your return policy?  How many days?    The eBay return window may have closed if this transaction occurred in April.  However, as you may or may not know, PayPal allows returns for up to 180 days after purchase so buyers can always go that route in trying to get a refund.

My policy is 30 days.  I realize she can’t open a claim with eBay anymore.  She needs to go to the Pal or her CC and it is my fear that she shipped something to my zip, possibly even me but I doubt it was the shoes.

if she files a claim with PP, do I get hit with a $20 penalty too?

As her to upload to you the tracking history.

She could have you mistaken with someone else.

She could be bluffing.

This information will give you a better handle on where these shoes went back to.

I would apologize to the buyer and firmly say that it is your policy that you only resolve these types of scenarios in a formal eBay case setting for the protection of both buyer and seller. I believe she can not leave FB so you should have nothing to worry about there but without a doubt block and report the buyer.

As far as paypal is concerned, if she can show tracking that proves it was delivered then she may be able to get a refund that way but my best guess is that they would do so out of their own pockets as this sounds HIGHLY suspect.

You only pay the $20 if the buyer files a claim with their credit card company AND you lose the claim.   If you win it or if you refund right away because there is tracking info, then there would be no charge.

I'll add to this. If the buyer does file with the credit card, you pretty much will definitely lose. PayPal will charge you $20, but every time this has happened to me I was able to get PayPal to AT LEAST waive the $20 by calling them.
